cancellation Smartpay: Easy Method
What is Smartpay
Overview
Smartpay is a Pay-Later payment solution that lets customers split or defer payments at participating merchants. It operates through partnerships with stores and processes orders that merchants capture or cancel from their dashboard.
How it works
Customers select Smartpay at checkout; merchants initiate captures and refunds via the Merchant Dashboard or API. Smartpay manages payment schedules and posts refunds back to the original card when merchants issue them.
How to cancel Smartpay
Merchant cancellation (what merchants do)
- Merchants can cancel uncaptured or partially captured orders in the Merchant Dashboard.
- Once a merchant cancels an order in the dashboard the action is irreversible - no further changes or refunds can be made to that cancellation.
- For merchant instructions see the official Smartpay guidance: Smartpay: How do I cancel an existing order?
Consumer cancellation (what customers should do)
- Smartpay directs customers to contact the store where they placed the order; the store’s contact details are included in the order confirmation email.
- If you are the customer, contact the merchant first and request cancellation or refund; the merchant will process any required actions via Smartpay.
- There is no separate in-app or platform-specific cancellation flow for App Store / Google Play - cancellations follow the merchant-oriented flow.
What happens when you cancel
Access and service
If a merchant cancels an uncaptured order, the payment schedule is stopped and any future installments are cancelled.
For captured orders, the merchant must issue a refund; Smartpay will reflect refunds in the account once the merchant processes them.
Irreversible action
Merchant-initiated cancellations made in the Merchant Dashboard are irreversible. Once cancelled, you cannot reopen or modify that specific cancellation action.
For this reason, confirm cancellation details with the merchant before they complete the action in Smartpay.
Will I get a refund?
Refund policy
Refunds must be initiated by the merchant via the Merchant Dashboard or API. Smartpay returns refunded amounts to the original card and adjusts the payment schedule accordingly.
Merchant fees are generally non-refundable; check the merchant’s terms and Smartpay’s merchant documentation for fee specifics.
Timing and exceptions
- Once the merchant issues the refund, Smartpay reflects it immediately in your Smartpay account.
- Refunds are transferred back to the card used; if BankDirect was used this may take until the next business day.
- Card issuers may take up to 10 business days to post the refund; some confirmations may take up to 14 business days.
- Refunds are applied from the last payment backwards: full refunds cancel upcoming payments and return paid amounts; partial refunds cancel future payments and return the remainder.
For the official refund process see: Smartpay: How do I process a refund?

Your consumer rights in United Arab Emirates
Where to file a complaint
If you have an unresolved dispute with a merchant using Smartpay, you can escalate through UAE consumer-protection channels.
Use the Dubai Consumer App or the official portal to submit complaints and request mediation or enforcement actions.
Smart Protection and remedies
- Dubai’s “Smart Protection” service can generate a Solution Letter quickly to present to merchants and help resolve disputes.
- Submit complaints or seek guidance at: consumerrights.ae.
- If needed, contact the local consumer protection call centre (CCCP) or the relevant emirate’s consumer-protection authority for escalation.
Customer experiences
Reported issues
Publicly available complaints cited in third-party review sites refer to a different, similarly named company (“SmartLease Dubai”) and are not verified as Smartpay complaints.
Official Smartpay documentation does not list wide consumer complaints in verified sources; always verify which legal entity you are dealing with when reading reviews.
Context and practical advice
Because Smartpay operates via merchants, common friction points are merchant responsiveness and how merchants handle refunds and cancellations.
If you encounter slow responses from a store, document communications and escalate through UAE consumer channels as needed.
Documentation checklist
What to gather before contacting merchant
- Order confirmation email (contains merchant contact details and order ID).
- Transaction ID or Smartpay reference number shown on receipts or account.
- Payment card last four digits and date of transaction.
What to gather for regulatory complaints
- Copies/screenshots of communications with the merchant (emails, chat logs).
- Proof of cancellation or refund attempts and any dashboard or transaction records.
- Any relevant merchant terms or receipts showing agreed payment schedule.
Common mistakes
Assuming in-app cancellation applies
Many users assume Smartpay subscriptions or Pay-Later plans can be cancelled through App Store or Google Play. In the UAE context Smartpay cancellations are handled by merchants, not by platform app stores.
Always contact the merchant shown in the order confirmation email rather than relying on app-store controls for Smartpay transactions.
Delaying contact or lacking documentation
Waiting too long to contact the merchant or failing to save order details makes disputes harder to resolve. Keep emails and screenshots until the issue is closed.
If a merchant cancels an order in the dashboard without your explicit agreement, escalate promptly with evidence to UAE consumer authorities if needed.
