Cancellation Aws: Easy Method
What is Aws
Aws (Amazon Web Services) is a cloud computing platform that provides on-demand compute, storage, networking, monitoring and many managed services for businesses and developers. It is used to run servers, store data, manage applications and purchase third-party software through channels such as the AWS Management Console, AWS Marketplace, Skill Builder and enterprise training programs.
How to cancel Aws
- To close an AWS account: sign in to the AWS Management Console, go to Account Settings (Billing & Cost Management), locate the "Close Account" section and follow the on-screen steps to close the account. After closing, terminate all running resources to stop further charges.
- To cancel an AWS Marketplace subscription (web): go to the AWS Marketplace console → Manage subscriptions → choose the subscription → Actions → Cancel subscription → enter “confirm” → Yes, cancel. Then terminate any instances/jobs/endpoints associated with that subscription to stop billing.
- To cancel Skill Builder subscriptions: there is no consistent cancellation path in the Skill Builder UI; if you cannot cancel from the interface, open an AWS Support case and request cancellation and any refund consideration.
- For Enterprise Classroom Training: follow the booking terms - you or AWS may cancel or reschedule at least 14 days before class start without charge; if less than 14 days before start, AWS may bill the full fee and expenses - contact the training organizer or your AWS account team to cancel or reschedule.
- If unsure or if a console method fails, open an AWS Support case via the Support Center, include your account ID, subscription identifiers and evidence of attempts to cancel.
What happens when you cancel
When you close an AWS account or cancel a subscription, access to that account or subscription will be restricted and you will no longer be able to create new resources under it. Cancellation of a subscription does not always immediately stop usage-based charges: any running instances, jobs, endpoints or storage must be terminated or deleted to avoid ongoing billing. Some services retain data for a period after cancellation for compliance, backup, or recovery purposes; check the specific service retention policies if you need data preserved or removed.
Will I get a refund?
Refunds vary by channel and product. For AWS Marketplace purchases (non-private offers), AWS issues a full refund automatically if you cancel within 48 hours of purchase; after 48 hours the seller’s refund policy applies. If you converted from a free trial, AWS may issue refunds for charges incurred within seven days of conversion. For third‑party Marketplace products, refunds depend on the seller’s stated policy and you must typically request a refund from the seller. For AWS IQ, payments you approve to experts are generally final and refunds are at the expert’s discretion. For Enterprise Classroom Training, cancellations made less than 14 days before a class may result in full charges and travel expenses, whereas earlier cancellation or rescheduling is typically not charged.

Your consumer rights in Canada
There is no single federal 14‑day statutory right to cancel or refund for cloud services in Canada; consumer protections can vary by province and by the type of agreement (business vs consumer). Your entitlement to a refund or cancellation remedy depends largely on the specific AWS product, seller terms (for Marketplace), and any contract or booking terms you accepted. AWS’s intervention varies by channel: AWS may automatically refund Marketplace purchases within 48 hours, but third‑party sellers, AWS IQ experts and some training bookings follow separate policies. Expect to provide account identifiers and be prepared to escalate through AWS Support when a seller or the platform does not resolve a charge to your satisfaction.
Customer experiences
Users rate many AWS services positively - reviewers note the Management Console and services like CloudWatch are powerful and well integrated, with high usability for experienced users. At the same time, complaints appear commonly around billing complexity, unexpected charges, and difficulty getting fast, consistent support. Some users report trouble canceling Skill Builder subscriptions through the UI or difficulty identifying which resources are generating costs. Overall experiences vary by user technical skill, the channel used to purchase services and whether third‑party sellers are involved.
Documentation checklist
- Account ID and root email, billing account number, recent invoices and statements.
- Subscription names and IDs (Marketplace), training booking reference or contract, Skill Builder subscription details.
- List of running resources (EC2 instance IDs, RDS, EBS volumes, Load Balancers, endpoints), screenshots showing active resources and attempted cancellations.
- Payment method details and receipts if requesting refunds; support case numbers and correspondence records.
Common mistakes
Many common errors prolong billing or block refunds: assuming account closure alone stops all charges when running resources remain; forgetting to cancel Marketplace subscriptions or to terminate instances, storage volumes and load balancers that continue to incur usage charges; relying on Skill Builder UI when it does not provide a clear cancel flow; and assuming AWS will automatically refund third‑party seller charges. For training or contracted services, cancelling too close to the start date can trigger full fees and expenses per the service terms.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Online Account Closure (AWS account) | Varies by service and charges; not automatically refunded in all cases | Medium |
| AWS Marketplace (Web) subscription | Full refund if within 48 hours (automatic); after 48 hours depends on seller | Low - Medium |
| Skill Builder subscription | Depends; users often must open support case - refunds unclear | High |
| Enterprise Classroom Training | No charge if cancelled >14 days before; may be billed full fee & expenses if <14 days | Medium |
| AWS IQ payments | Payments approved to experts are final; refunds depend on the expert | High |
After cancelling
After you cancel or close an account, verify that all resources are terminated, check the Billing console for any remaining charges, and retain copies of invoices and cancellation confirmations. If you need help, open an AWS Support case and include account identifiers and evidence of attempted cancellations.
