Cancellation Learndash: Easy Method

What is Learndash

LearnDash is a WordPress-based learning management system (LMS) plugin and a hosted Cloud product that lets organizations create, manage and sell online courses. It provides core LMS features such as course builders, quizzes, certificates and integrations with WordPress and third-party services.

How to cancel Learndash

  • Web (plugin or Cloud) - Sign in to your LearnDash Account Portal, open the Subscriptions tab, click the gear icon beside the subscription and disable auto‑renewal. Note that disabling auto‑renewal keeps the license active until its current expiration date; it does not automatically trigger a refund. For details see the billing help: LearnDash billing & account.
  • Legacy customers - If you were moved to a legacy billing system, you must also cancel in your Zoho billing portal; expired legacy subscriptions cannot be reactivated.
  • In‑app purchases (LearnDash App via Apple App Store or Google Play) - Purchases made through Apple or Google Play must be refunded through that store; LearnDash does not process App Store / Google Play refunds. See LearnDash in‑app purchases: In‑app purchases guide.

What happens when you cancel

When you disable auto‑renewal in the Account Portal, your license remains active until the subscription’s paid term ends. You retain access to the product and updates (for plugin licenses) or the hosted environment (for Cloud) until expiry. Cancellation does not immediately remove your site or data - you will typically continue to have normal access for the remainder of the billing period. If a subscription expires, reactivation may not be available for legacy accounts; for Cloud or current plugin licenses you can renew or repurchase via your account.

Will I get a refund?

LearnDash’s stated refund policy allows refunds within 30 days of initial purchase for annual plans and within 15 days for monthly Cloud plans. Cancelling auto‑renewal does not automatically issue a refund - you must submit a refund request form or contact LearnDash support. Renewal reminder emails are sent 14 days before renewal; disabling auto‑renewal will stop future charges but does not change refund eligibility under the policy. For policy details and how to request a refund see: LearnDash refund policy.

Your consumer rights in Canada

Canada does not provide a general statutory right to cancel or obtain refunds for digital goods simply because of a change of mind; merchants set and must follow their published refund policies. Under distance‑selling rules there can be a 14‑day cooling‑off period for certain online purchases, but the right to cancel digital content typically ends once download or streaming has begun when you agreed to immediate delivery. Provincial consumer protection regimes (for example Québec, Ontario and British Columbia) have specific rules for some contracts, but they generally do not guarantee an unconditional right to a refund for standard digital products. For general references, see published resources on Canadian refund law and provincial consumer protection.

If you believe a product is defective, misrepresented or you were charged incorrectly, raise the issue with LearnDash support first and retain all transaction records - provincial consumer protection offices can advise on next steps if the merchant’s response is unsatisfactory.

Customer experiences

User feedback is mixed. Many reviewers praise LearnDash support for quick, friendly and competent service and highlight strong WordPress integration and a polished LMS feature set; see customer scores on platforms such as Trustpilot and Capterra. Other reviewers report unresolved issues or slow/insufficient responses in some cases; a minority reported financial impacts or found setup and advanced configuration challenging. These mixed reports suggest generally positive experiences for typical use, with occasional escalations needed for complex or edge‑case problems. See sample review sources: Trustpilot, Capterra, and a negative report at GetApp.

Documentation checklist

  • Order number / transaction ID, purchase date, subscription ID and account email
  • Screenshot or PDF of the invoice and any renewal charge
  • Confirmation of cancellation (Account Portal screenshot) and date you disabled auto‑renewal
  • If applicable, Apple/Google receipt for in‑app purchases and any store refund case IDs
  • Copies of communications with LearnDash support and your reason for the refund request

Common mistakes

Expecting that disabling auto‑renewal will immediately cancel your active access or produce an automatic refund. Disabling auto‑renewal only prevents future charges; access remains until the paid term ends. Another common error is requesting an App Store / Google Play refund from LearnDash - those refunds must be requested from Apple or Google. Legacy customers sometimes forget to cancel in their Zoho billing portal, which can leave a legacy subscription active. Finally, assuming an expired legacy subscription can always be reactivated may cause surprise - some legacy plans cannot be restored and must be repurchased.

Comparative recap

Method Refund Difficulty
Account Portal (disable auto‑renew) No automatic refund; request via refund form and eligibility subject to policy Easy
Legacy Zoho billing portal Refunds governed by LearnDash policy; cancellation in Zoho required for legacy accounts Moderate
In‑app purchase (Apple App Store / Google Play) Refunds must be requested from Apple or Google Play Varies (store policies differ)
Mailing a cancellation letter Does not change refund eligibility; serves as written notice or proof Moderate

After cancelling

After disabling auto‑renewal or otherwise cancelling, keep copies of all confirmation emails and screenshots showing the subscription status and cancellation date. If you intend to request a refund, submit the LearnDash refund request form or contact support promptly and include the documentation checklist items. For App Store / Google Play purchases, open a refund request with the store using your purchase receipt. If you rely on course data, export backups before your account or site access ends. For support and refund submissions see LearnDash support and the refund policy: Refund policy and Account billing & cancellation help.
