Cancellation Puregym: Easy Method

What is Puregym

PureGym is a low-cost gym operator offering membership access to gym facilities, classes and some add-on services. It operates a membership system with monthly and fixed-term plans, day passes, and an online Member’s Area (app and web) for managing bookings, freezes and cancellations.

How to cancel Puregym

  • Monthly membership (Core, Plus, Off-Peak): Sign in to the Member’s Area (app or web) and go to “Your Gym Pass” or “Manage Your Membership”, select “Freeze or Cancel” and follow the prompts. You must submit cancellation at least 4 working days before your next payment date to stop further charges; your membership remains active until the day before the next payment. See PureGym’s guidance: Cancel a monthly membership.
  • Alternative for monthly plans: You can stop the direct debit via your bank at least 4 working days before the next payment date, which prevents further debits but does not automatically update PureGym’s records.
  • Fixed-term memberships (6, 9, 12 months paid in full): These cannot be cancelled online. Contact PureGym Member Services via email or Facebook Messenger to request cancellation; refunds for early termination are handled per terms.
  • Day passes / daily memberships: Day passes are generally non-refundable once purchased. If the pass start date is more than 14 days after purchase, you may be able to cancel within the earlier of 14 days after purchase or the day before activation for a full refund - check the terms: Day pass terms.
  • Stopping a cancellation: If you change your mind you can reverse a cancellation via the Member’s Area provided you are at least 4 working days before your next payment date. See: Stop a cancellation.

What happens when you cancel

When a monthly cancellation is accepted in time, membership access continues until the day before the next payment date; you will not be charged again provided the cancellation was submitted at least 4 working days before that date. If you stop the direct debit via your bank, future payments should cease but you should still confirm cancellation with PureGym to avoid account issues. For fixed-term contracts, PureGym will process any allowed early cancellation and calculate any refund due per their terms. Keep copies of confirmation messages or screenshots as proof of your cancellation request.

Will I get a refund?

You generally have a 14-day cooling-off (money-back) right to cancel and obtain a full refund of fees paid, though PureGym may reduce any refund to account for the value of access used if you started using the membership within that period. If you cancel a fixed-term paid-in-full contract early you are typically entitled to a refund of 50% of the unused pro-rated amount. Day passes are non-refundable after purchase except in the limited circumstances noted above (refund available if cancellation is within the permitted cooling-off/delay window). See the membership terms for details: PureGym membership terms.

Your consumer rights in Canada

Under the general consumer protections applicable in Canada, you may have a right to a cooling-off period and refunds where statutory rules or the contract provide for them. PureGym’s published terms state a 14-day cooling-off (money-back) guarantee; if you cancel within that window you should be entitled to a full refund subject to deductions for any membership use. Fixed-term contract early cancellation and refunds are governed by the contract (PureGym states a 50% refund of unused pro-rated fees). If a gym is closed for more than 72 hours for operational reasons, you may be able to claim a refund for unused days. Provincial consumer protection rules can vary, so consider checking local legislation or contacting your provincial consumer protection office if you believe your statutory rights are not being respected.

Customer experiences

Many members report positive experiences with PureGym locations: spacious facilities, good equipment selection and helpful staff at some sites. Common complaints raised by customers include narrow cancellation windows leading to an extra month’s charge if timing is missed, difficulty contacting customer service (limited phone options), slow or unresponsive support, and concerns over unexpected price increases. Experiences with cleanliness and crowding vary by location. These recurring themes suggest keeping careful records and confirming cancellations well ahead of deadline helps reduce disputes.

Documentation checklist

  • Membership number, plan name and your account email/phone
  • Next payment date and recent billing statement showing the debit date
  • Screenshots of the Member’s Area showing cancellation steps or confirmation
  • Copies of emails, chat transcripts or Messenger messages with Member Services
  • Receipts for day passes, proof of purchase and activation dates (if applicable)
  • Bank statements or direct debit cancellation confirmation
  • If posting a letter, send by recorded delivery and keep the receipt; use address below

Common mistakes

A frequent error is missing the 4 working-day window before the next payment date; missing this window often results in one more monthly charge. Another mistake is assuming fixed-term contracts can be cancelled online like monthly plans; fixed-term contracts require Member Services contact and have different refund rules. People also sometimes rely solely on stopping a direct debit without confirming cancellation with PureGym, which can cause account confusion. For day passes, buyers often assume they are refundable - only limited refunds apply when the activation date is delayed per terms. Always keep proof of your cancellation request and confirmation.

Comparative recap

Method Refund Difficulty
Member’s Area (Monthly 'Freeze or Cancel') No refund for future months if cancelled in time; stops further charges. Cooling-off refund possible within 14 days. Easy (if done at least 4 working days before next payment)
Bank / stop direct debit No automatic refund from PureGym; prevents future debits but reconciling account may be required. Medium (effective with bank but may require follow-up with PureGym)
Contact Member Services (Fixed-term) Refund of 50% of unused pro-rated amount per PureGym terms (if eligible). Medium to Hard (must contact Member Services; processing varies)
Day pass cancellation Refund only within limited delay/cooling-off window; otherwise non-refundable. Medium (strict time limits)
Cooling-off (within 14 days) Full refund subject to deduction for any use Easy if exercised promptly

After cancelling

After you cancel, keep confirmation emails/screenshots and monitor your bank statements to confirm no further charges. If you believe you are charged incorrectly, contact PureGym Member Services with your documentation and, if needed, raise a dispute with your bank or card issuer.
