Cancellation Bmo: Easy Method
What is Bmo
BMO (Bank of Montreal) is one of Canada’s major financial institutions, offering personal and business banking products such as chequing and savings accounts, credit cards, loans, and digital banking services. BMO provides mobile and web apps for account access and some promotional third-party memberships tied to its cards or offers.
How to cancel Bmo
- App Store (iOS): If the subscription was purchased through Apple, cancel through your Apple ID subscription settings (for example, Settings → your name → Subscriptions on iPhone) or via the App Store on Mac/PC. BMO cannot cancel App Store subscriptions for you and deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. See Apple’s subscription support.
- Google Play (Android): If the subscription was billed through Google Play, cancel in the Play Store under Payments & Subscriptions → My subscriptions or at play.google.com. BMO cannot cancel Google Play subscriptions on your behalf. For guidance, see Google Play cancellation help.
- Web / BMO Direct or other BMO-promoted memberships: There is no publicly documented self-service cancellation page for some BMO-related memberships sold or promoted via BMO web pages. If the membership is billed directly by BMO (or the offer is administered by a partner under a BMO promotion), contact BMO customer service and consider sending a formal cancellation request by registered mail to the Customer Complaint Appeal Office. Third-party services (for example Unsubby) offer to send cancellation letters but are not affiliated with BMO.
What happens when you cancel
When you cancel a subscription, access typically continues until the end of the current paid billing period; immediate termination depends on the merchant or platform. Recurring charges should stop after cancellation, but you should verify your bank or card statement to confirm. Cancelling an app-store subscription is handled by Apple or Google, and BMO cannot reverse platform-managed renewals. Your account data and transaction history with BMO remain subject to BMO’s privacy and retention policies; cancelling a membership does not automatically delete your BMO banking account or historical records.
Will I get a refund?
Refunds depend on where and how the subscription was purchased and on the specific offer terms. For digital purchases through the App Store or Google Play, Apple’s and Google’s refund policies apply and eligibility varies - Apple provides a 'Report a Problem' / refunds process and Google’s refunds are limited and generally only applied for specific circumstances. For certain BMO promotional offers (for example an Instacart+ membership obtained through a BMO credit card promotion), BMO’s terms may allow a refund if you cancel within a short cooling-off period: Instacart+ purchased via a BMO offer is eligible for a refund if cancelled within 5 days of the start of the paid membership term and no orders were placed. Always check the offer’s terms for any time limits or usage conditions; see BMO’s offer terms for details here. If you believe you are entitled to a refund but do not receive one, keep records and contact the payment provider (Apple/Google) or BMO customer support as appropriate.

Your consumer rights in Canada
Canadian consumer protection provides certain rights, including possible short cooling-off periods for promotional memberships when explicitly stated in the offer. For digital app purchases made through Apple or Google, refund and dispute processes are governed primarily by Apple’s and Google’s policies rather than by BMO. There is no blanket statutory 14‑day digital subscription refund right applicable to banking app subscriptions in Canada unless the contract or promotional terms specify one. If you believe a financial product or service has been misrepresented, you can escalate through BMO’s complaints process and, if unresolved, contact your provincial consumer protection office or the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada for guidance.
Customer experiences
Public reviews and forum discussions show mixed to negative experiences for some customers. Common themes reported include long waits for support, account access issues or freezes, and frustration over unexplained account changes or reductions in credit limits. Some users report app crashes and login errors that required branch visits or escalations. Positive feedback is comparatively sparse in public review samples, so it’s advisable to document communications carefully and follow formal escalation channels if problems arise.
Documentation checklist
- Account holder name, account or subscription ID, and last 4 digits of the card used
- Date of purchase / subscription start and billing receipts or statements showing charges
- Screenshots of subscription entries in Apple/Google or BMO app and any confirmation emails
- Copies of correspondence with BMO, Apple, or Google and any cancellation confirmations
- Registered-mail receipt or tracking number if you send a written cancellation request
Common mistakes
Users commonly assume deleting the mobile app cancels subscriptions - this does not stop recurring charges made through the App Store or Google Play. Another frequent error is contacting the wrong party: platform-managed purchases (Apple/Google) must be cancelled via the platform, not BMO. People also wait too long to request refunds or fail to preserve proof of purchase and communications; without documented evidence it can be harder to resolve disputes. Finally, not checking the specific terms of promotional offers (for example the 5-day Instacart+ rule) can lead to missed refund windows.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| App Store (iOS) | Refunds handled by Apple; eligibility varies and must be requested via Apple’s refund process | Moderate (use Apple’s online process) |
| Google Play (Android) | Refunds handled by Google; generally limited and evaluated case-by-case via Play Store order history | Moderate (request via Google Play) |
| Web / BMO Direct or BMO-promoted offers | Depends on BMO’s offer terms (example: Instacart+ has a 5-day refund window if unused) | Variable; may require contacting BMO and sending formal written requests |
After cancelling
After you cancel, check your next two statements to confirm recurring charges have stopped and keep the cancellation confirmation and any correspondence for at least six months. If a charge persists, contact the platform (Apple/Google) or BMO customer service and provide your documentation. For unresolved disputes, consider escalating to BMO’s complaints channels, the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, or your card issuer for a chargeback if applicable.
