Cancellation Td Bank: Easy Method
What is Td Bank
TD Bank (TD Canada Trust in Canada) is a federally regulated financial institution offering personal and business banking products such as chequing and savings accounts, bill payments, Interac e-Transfer and third-party transfer services, and consumer credit. It provides online and mobile (TD app, EasyWeb) access as well as branch and telephone support across Canada.
How to cancel Td Bank
- TD mobile app (Bill Payments): Open the TD app, go to Move Money → Bill Payments, select the scheduled or in-progress payment, and confirm cancellation. Same-day payments can be cancelled any time up to 11:59 PM ET on the day of payment; after that you must contact the merchant.
- EasyWeb (web banking): Sign in to EasyWeb, go to Scheduled Payments to remove future payments. For same-day payments check Payment History and cancel up to 11:59 PM ET (note there can be exceptions around weekends/holidays).
- Post-dated or recurring payments: Cancel through EasyWeb before the cutoff (see above). If you miss the cutoff, contact TD at 1-866-222-3456 for assistance.
- Money transfers (Third-Party Transfer Services): Call TD at 1-844-352-1148 to request cancellation. Transfers cannot be cancelled once the recipient has received the funds.
- Formal account or service closure by mail: Send a signed written request to TD’s administrative address (see Address section); send by registered mail if you need proof of delivery.
What happens when you cancel
When you cancel a scheduled bill payment or a post-dated transaction before the stated cutoff, TD will stop processing that specific instruction and no funds will be sent. For same-day cancellations, the window generally closes at 11:59 PM ET; if you miss that window the payment may be processed and you'll need to contact the merchant. For money transfers, cancellation is possible only before the recipient has received the funds; once received, a cancellation is not possible through TD. Closing an account will end access to that account, stop recurring charges tied to it, and may close linked services; you remain responsible for outstanding obligations and any pending authorizations.
Will I get a refund?
Refund outcomes depend on the product and timing. If a scheduled payment is cancelled before processing, no funds will be taken. For third-party money transfers that are declined or remain unclaimed, TD will attempt to obtain a refund from the receiver; if funds are returned they will be credited to you and converted into the original currency at TD’s prevailing rate when conversion occurs. If a Third-Party Transfer Service transaction is cancelled by TD, both the transfer amount and the Third-Party Transfer Fee will be credited back to the original funding source. TD is not liable for exchange-rate differences when conversions occur.

Your consumer rights in Canada
As a federally regulated financial institution, TD must maintain a formal complaint-handling process and is subject to oversight by the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC). If you are not satisfied with TD’s response - or if 56 days have passed after you filed a complaint - you may escalate to the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments (OBSI) for independent dispute resolution. For unauthorized or incorrect credit card transactions you may file a transaction dispute with TD; TD may request further information and aims to update you within 30 business days. Note that TD advises cancelling recurring subscriptions before submitting a dispute, and if you do not respond to requests for additional information, provisional credits could be reversed.
Customer experiences
Customer reports are mixed. Some long-term customers praise helpful branch staff or a specific employee, but many public reviews express dissatisfaction with customer service - long wait times, unhelpful responses, and difficulty resolving payment or fraud-related issues. Users have reported delayed or held funds, frozen accounts, and disputed transactions not always resolved to the customer’s satisfaction. Experiences with cross-border wires and transfers also show examples of slow or withheld funds. Use official escalation paths (TD complaint process, FCAC, OBSI) if initial resolution is unsatisfactory.
Documentation checklist
- Government-issued photo ID (driver’s licence or passport) and account holder name
- Account number and branch details (EasyWeb login ID may help)
- Transaction details: date, amount, payee/merchant, confirmation or reference numbers
- Screenshots or PDF copies of the payment / scheduled payment screen, confirmation emails or app messages
- Copies of any correspondence with the merchant or recipient and proof of cancellation attempts
- For mailed requests, a signed written instruction and proof of sending (use registered mail/raccomandata A/R for delivery confirmation)
Common mistakes
Missing the cancellation cutoff is a frequent problem: same-day bill payments typically can be cancelled only until 11:59 PM ET, and post-dated payments must be cancelled by 11:59 PM ET on the business day before processing. Another common mistake is attempting to cancel a third-party money transfer after the recipient has already received funds - such transfers cannot be reversed by TD once delivered. People also sometimes fail to gather sufficient documentation (confirmation numbers, screenshots) before contacting support, which can slow resolution. Finally, if you close an account without redirecting automatic debits, recurring payments can fail or become subject to penalties from merchants.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| TD mobile app - Bill Payments (same-day) | Cancelable up to 11:59 PM ET; if stopped before processing no funds are sent. After cutoff contact merchant. | Low - cancel directly in app |
| EasyWeb - Scheduled / future payments | Cancelable before processing (Scheduled Payments section). Post-dated cutoff applies; refunds depend on timing. | Low - Medium - web cancellation available, watch cutoff and weekends/holidays |
| Post-dated / recurring via EasyWeb help | If cancelled before the business-day cutoff no charge; missed cutoff may require TD call and merchant contact. | Medium - may require contacting 1-866-222-3456 or merchant |
| Money transfers (Third-Party Transfer Services) | If declined/unclaimed TD will seek refund; if returned you are credited (converted at TD rate). Fees refunded if TD cancels transfer. Cannot cancel after recipient receives funds. | Medium - High - must call 1-844-352-1148; refunds are contingent |
After cancelling
After you cancel, retain confirmation numbers, screenshots and any TD confirmation message. Monitor your account for the expected credit or reversal and keep records until the matter is fully resolved. If you do not receive a satisfactory outcome through TD’s complaint process, you can raise the matter with the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) or, where applicable, request independent review from the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments (OBSI). For account or service details and official support pages see TD’s customer support: TD Personal Banking.
