Cancellation Namecheap: Easy Method
What is Namecheap
Namecheap is an ICANN‑accredited domain registrar and web services provider offering domain registration, shared and managed hosting, email, SSL certificates, DNS services and an apps marketplace. Customers use Namecheap for domain name management, website hosting (including EasyWP), Private Email and additional security or DNS products.
How to cancel Namecheap
- Apps Marketplace (Namecheap’s platform): cancel the app or subscription in your Apps Marketplace dashboard and contact Support within 24 hours of purchase or renewal if you need a refund; beyond 24 hours refunds are generally not available. See the Apps Terms.
- Private Email via Namecheap Admin Panel: cancel the subscription in the Admin Panel; note that Private Email subscriptions canceled this way are non‑refundable - if you need a refund or reversal after an unwanted renewal, contact Support within applicable windows. See Private Email cancellation and the refund policy.
- EasyWP subscriptions: to request a possible refund contact Support within 30 days of creation or within 24 hours after renewal; otherwise disable auto‑renew to allow the service to expire. See EasyWP cancellation.
- Web hosting accounts: disable auto‑renew in your account so the package will expire at the end of the paid term; hosting cancellation does not automatically cancel associated domain registrations. See hosting cancellation.
- If you need a formal notice or written confirmation, open a support ticket and, for legal or contract termination, consider sending registered/certified mail to Namecheap’s corporate address (see Address section below).
What happens when you cancel
When you cancel a subscription or disable auto‑renew, the service typically remains active until the end of the paid period; cancellation does not usually produce immediate termination unless Namecheap sets an account suspension for other reasons. Domains and domain registrations are handled separately - canceling hosting will not cancel domain registrations or transfers. Data retained by Namecheap (email, site files, DNS settings) may be removed after the service period ends, so export any content or mailbox data before expiry.
Will I get a refund?
Refunds depend on the product and timing. Namecheap generally treats domain registrations and renewals as non‑refundable but may offer refunds for new registrations or renewals if canceled within 5 days (120 hours), subject to registry rules. Many hosting packages offer a 30‑day money‑back guarantee for first‑time accounts (Dedicated Servers: 7 days). SSL certificates are refundable within 90 days if not issued and within 15 days after issuance. PremiumDNS purchases have a 5‑day refund window; renewals are non‑refundable. Apps Marketplace purchases are refundable only if cancelled within 24 hours of purchase or renewal; one‑time immediate services and expired trials are not refundable. Private Email offers a 2‑month free trial; if a paid charge occurs you should contact Support within 7 days to request reversal. Payments are returned to the original method (credit card or PayPal); cryptocurrency payments are non‑refundable. Processing fees may be deducted. See Namecheap’s refund policy, the hosting Terms of Service and relevant support articles for full details.

Your consumer rights in Canada
Canadian federal and provincial consumer protection laws may provide cooling‑off or distance‑sale rights in some circumstances, but those rules vary by province and often exclude certain digital goods and domain or hosting services. Namecheap’s published policies (for example, limited 5‑day or 30‑day refund windows) do not reference a statutory 14‑day EU‑style right, and Canadian consumers may have less automatic scope than those protections. Quebec and some provinces have additional protections for consumers - if you believe a statutory right applies, check provincial regulations or consult local consumer protection agencies. For disputes, keep documentation and raise the issue promptly with Namecheap Support before pursuing formal complaints or legal remedies.
Customer experiences
Public reviews are mixed. Many customers praise Namecheap for professional, responsive support, straightforward domain purchasing and good value over years of use. Others report negative experiences, including account suspensions with limited explanation, difficulties communicating with abuse or legal teams, unexpected recurring charges after cancellation and frustration with refunds. These mixed reports suggest satisfactory outcomes for routine domain and hosting needs, but potential friction for disputed charges or complex account issues.
Documentation checklist
- Account email and username; order number or invoice ID for the purchase or renewal.
- Domain name(s) or service identifier(s) involved and the date of purchase/renewal.
- Screenshots of billing, renewal notices, the product page, and any cancellation confirmation screens.
- Payment evidence (credit card or PayPal statement) showing the charge you dispute.
- Support ticket numbers, dates and copies of communications with Namecheap Support.
- If sending formal notice, a copy of the support ticket plus a registered/certified mail receipt; consider addressing formal letters to Namecheap’s legal department at the corporate address below.
Common mistakes
Customers commonly forget to disable auto‑renewal and then assume cancellation after a support request will stop future charges; always disable auto‑renew in the account dashboard and confirm the status. Another frequent error is assuming domains are canceled when hosting is terminated - domains remain active unless separately canceled or transferred. Expecting refunds outside published windows (24 hours for many Apps purchases, 5 days for many domain refunds, 30 days for first‑time hosting) often leads to frustration; contact Support immediately if you think a charge was erroneous. Finally, cryptocurrency payments cannot be refunded, so treat such payments as final.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Apps Marketplace cancellation | Refund only within 24 hours of purchase/renewal; otherwise no refund | Low - Medium (time‑sensitive) |
| Private Email via Admin Panel | Cancellation non‑refundable via Admin Panel; contact Support within 7 days for charge reversal requests | Medium |
| EasyWP | Possible refund if within 30 days of creation or within 24 hours after renewal; otherwise disable auto‑renew | Medium |
| Hosting (shared/VPS) | 30‑day money‑back for first‑time accounts (7 days for Dedicated); add‑ons generally non‑refundable | Low - Medium |
| Domain registrations/renewals | Generally non‑refundable, but refunds may be available within 5 days for some TLDs subject to registry rules | Medium |
| SSL Certificates | Refund within 90 days if not issued; 15 days after issuance for refundable cases | Low - Medium |
After cancelling
After you cancel or disable auto‑renew, export any email and website data, confirm the cancellation status in your Namecheap dashboard and retain all support ticket numbers and written confirmations.
