Cancellation Mint: Easy Method
What is Mint
The Royal Canadian Mint (Mint) is the federal institution that designs and produces circulation coins, collector and investment products, and related services. It sells products online through its store and publishes policies for ordering, cancellations, returns and customer service on its website.
How to cancel Mint
- Call the Customer Service Solutions Centre at 1‑800‑267‑1871 (Canada/US/International) Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 6 pm EST to request cancellation of an online order. Cancellation is possible only while the order remains in the Mint’s warehouse; no cancellations are accepted after product shipment. Mint FAQ.
- If you prefer written notice, send a cancellation request by regular mail and consider registered/return‑receipt (raccomandata A/R) for proof of delivery to the address in the Address section below. Include your order number, full name, contact details and clear cancellation language.
- Do not assume bullion and premium bullion in special packaging can be cancelled - these items are locked in immediately on order and cannot be cancelled.
What happens when you cancel
If a cancellation is accepted while the order is still in the warehouse, the Mint should stop shipment and process cancellation confirmation. You will not receive the product and the order will be closed; any reserved payment authorization may be released or converted to a refund according to the Mint’s payment processing timelines. If the item has already shipped, cancellation is not possible and you must follow the return process (if eligible) after delivery. Keep all confirmation numbers, emails and postal receipts as proof of your cancellation request and its handling.
Will I get a refund?
Under the Mint’s General Return Policy, most products (excluding certain bullion or other high‑value items) may be returned within 30 calendar days for a full refund or replacement; refunds are issued in the same form of payment and currency originally used. However, premium bullion, bullion, and products priced over CAD 500,000 are final sale and not eligible for refund or exchange except if defective; in that case an exchange may be requested within 14 calendar days of shipment. No cancellations are accepted after product shipment. See the Mint’s terms for full details: Terms of Sale.
Mint plans and pricing
| Plan | Price |
|---|---|
| Current status | Varies - The Mint has been discontinued in Canada as of early 2024; there is no active pricing for Mint services during 2024/2025. |
Your consumer rights in Canada
Canadian consumer protection laws vary by province but generally provide rights such as clear disclosure, remedies for defective goods, and specific rules for distance and online sales in some jurisdictions. Federal and provincial rules do not automatically override clear contractual terms that are properly disclosed; the Mint’s posted 30‑day return policy (with specified exceptions) typically exceeds minimum protections. For bullion or other final‑sale products the Mint’s no‑cancellation terms are generally enforceable if disclosed prominently. If you believe terms were not clearly disclosed or were misleading, you may consult your provincial consumer protection office or seek legal advice.
Customer experiences
Customer feedback is mixed. Some buyers report positive experiences with product quality and responsive customer service compared with other national mints. Conversely, many complaints on review platforms note issues such as advertised commemorative items being unavailable and dissatisfaction reflected in low overall ratings. For third‑party reviews see Trustpilot: Mint reviews on Trustpilot.
Documentation checklist
- Order number and order date
- Full name, billing and shipping addresses, and phone/email
- Payment method and last four digits of the card (do not send full card data)
- Copy of confirmation email or receipt
- Photos or documentation if returning for defect
- Registered mail receipt or cancellation call reference number
Common mistakes
Common errors include waiting until after shipment to try to cancel (cancellation is not accepted after shipment), not reading the bullion or premium‑product exceptions which are locked immediately, not calling within the specified customer‑service hours, and failing to keep proof of a mailed cancellation. Another frequent mistake is expecting refunds for final‑sale high‑value items that the Mint explicitly marks as non‑refundable.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Phone (Customer Service Solutions Centre) | Possible if order still in warehouse; refund in original payment method if eligible | Low |
| Postal mail (registered cancellation) | Possible if received and order not shipped; processing may be slower | Medium |
| After shipment | No cancellation; may be able to return within 30 days for eligible items (not bullion/premium/final sale) | High |
After cancelling
After you cancel, monitor your email and card statement for confirmation and any refund posting; allow the Mint’s stated processing times. Keep copies of all communications, call reference numbers and postal receipts. If a refund or confirmation does not arrive in a reasonable time, contact the Customer Service Solutions Centre again and reference your original cancellation proof.
