Cancellation Trustedhousesitters: Easy Method
What is Trustedhousesitters
TrustedHousesitters is an online marketplace that connects pet owners (pet parents) with sitters who provide pet and home care while owners are away. Members pay an annual subscription to create listings, apply for sits or host sitters, and to access platform features such as messaging, vet support (on some plans), and protection options included with certain plans.
How to cancel Trustedhousesitters
- Cancel automatic renewal via the website: log into your account, go to Settings → Membership → Turn off automatic renewal.
- Cancel automatic renewal via the mobile app: open the app, go to Me → Settings → My membership → Manage my membership → scroll down and select “Turn off automatic renewal.”
- If you subscribed through Apple (iOS) or Google Play (Android), you must cancel the subscription through Apple’s Subscriptions settings or Google Play Subscriptions respectively - deleting the app will not stop payments.
- To cancel a confirmed sit: a confirmed sit cannot be cancelled unilaterally unless both pet parent and sitter agree or there are extraordinary circumstances. Cancelling without agreement may result in disciplinary action on the platform; communicate with the other party and TrustedHousesitters support to seek a resolution.
- If you prefer postal cancellation or need to send supporting documentation, send a registered letter (recommended, e.g. tracked/raccomandata A/R) to the company’s registered address: TrustedHousesitters Worldwide Ltd, 3rd Floor, 86‑90 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NE, United Kingdom.
- If a sit is cancelled by either party and you paid a booking fee, the booking fee will be refunded in full.
What happens when you cancel
Turning off automatic renewal stops future recurring payments; your membership remains active until the end of the paid period. You can still log into your account after cancelling, view past messages and listings, and access any features that remain available for the duration of your subscription. Cancelling a subscription purchased through Apple or Google will cease renewal according to their billing cycle and is managed by those platforms.
Note that deleting the mobile app does not cancel the subscription and will not stop payments - you must follow the platform-specific cancellation process or cancel via your TrustedHousesitters account if the subscription was taken out directly on the website.
Will I get a refund?
TrustedHousesitters offers a standard refund if you haven’t used the membership within 14 days of joining or auto-renewing - specifically, if you have not made applications or had any live home-listing dates during that 14‑day window, you can request a full refund. Refunds for subscriptions purchased via Apple or Google may instead be handled by those stores and are subject to their refund policies.
There are Money‑Back Promise exceptions: first‑year Pet Parents on Standard or Premium plans may be eligible for a full refund if no sitter applications are received within 14 days of posting the first listing (and the listing was posted at least 14 days before the sit). First‑year Sitters may be eligible for a refund if, within 14 days of making their 5th application, none are confirmed (all declined or unanswered). Users report some ambiguity in how the 14‑day windows are enforced, so keep clear records and submit claims promptly.
If you paid a booking fee and a sit is cancelled (by either party), the booking fee should be refunded in full. If a refund is denied and you believe it breaches your consumer rights, you can contact your card issuer about a chargeback and/or report the issue to Canadian consumer protection authorities.

Your consumer rights in Canada
Under Canadian consumer protection principles there is generally a 14‑day cooling‑off period for digital subscriptions allowing cancellation and a full refund if the subscription has not been used - provincial rules vary, but this right is widely recognised. If a vendor refuses a valid refund or provides misleading terms, that may contravene consumer protection laws. If you cannot resolve the issue with TrustedHousesitters, contact your credit card issuer to discuss a chargeback and consider filing a complaint with the appropriate provincial consumer protection agency or the Government of Canada consumer services pages.
Customer experiences
Many users praise TrustedHousesitters for enabling travel while caring for pets, a generally user‑friendly platform, careful member screening and successful sits. Positive reviews highlight consistent good experiences, helpful sitters and hosts, and peace of mind when travelling.
Negative feedback commonly cites high membership and booking fees, perceived poor value, confusing or opaque refund and guarantee enforcement, occasional customer service challenges, billing frustrations, and cases of property damage or theft reported by some homeowners. Sitters also report frustration that they cannot unilaterally cancel confirmed sits and that app functionality or unclear Terms & Conditions updates can cause problems.
Documentation checklist
- Membership username / email and membership ID or invoice number
- Date of purchase or auto‑renewal and payment method used (card type, last 4 digits)
- Receipts or bank/credit card statements showing the charge
- Screenshots of account membership page showing renewal status or active membership
- For refund claims tied to listings: listing ID, posting date, and screenshot showing number of applications (or lack thereof)
- For sit cancellations: messages between sitter and pet parent showing attempts to resolve, and any booking fee receipt
- Confirmation of App Store/Google Play subscription if purchased via those platforms (subscription purchase history)
- Proof of postage/tracking if you send a registered letter to the company
Common mistakes
Deleting the mobile app but not cancelling the subscription is a frequent error - the app removal does not stop billing through Apple, Google Play, or the web subscription. Another common mistake is assuming a confirmed sit can be cancelled unilaterally; unless both parties agree or there are exceptional circumstances, unilateral cancellation may lead to platform sanctions.
Missing the 14‑day windows for standard refunds or Money‑Back Promise claims and failing to keep clear documentation (receipts, screenshots, message histories) also weakens refund requests. Finally, contacting the wrong support channel (e.g., asking Apple/Google to refund a purchase that was processed directly by TrustedHousesitters) delays resolution.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Turn off auto‑renew via Web/App | Stops future billing; refund only if within 14 days and unused | Easy |
| Cancel via Apple / Google Play | Refund handled by store policies; possible but not guaranteed | Easy - Medium |
| Request standard 14‑day refund (unused) | Full refund if criteria met | Medium |
| Money‑Back Promise (first year: Sitters / Pet Parents) | Full refund in specific circumstances (see policy); may require prompt claim | Medium - Hard |
| Cancel a confirmed sit | Booking fee refunded if sit cancelled; membership refund not automatic | Hard (requires agreement or exceptional circumstances) |
| Postal cancellation to registered address | Stops renewal if processed; refund depends on policy and timing | Medium |
After cancelling
After you cancel, double‑check that automatic renewal is turned off in your account or cancelled in Apple/Google Subscriptions. Keep all documentation used to request refunds or dispute charges. If you need to contact support, use the TrustedHousesitters support pages and include your membership details and the documentation checklist items above. For App Store or Google Play purchases use Apple or Google support links for refunds and subscription management.
Helpful links: TrustedHousesitters, Apple - view, change, or cancel subscriptions, Google Play - manage subscriptions, Government of Canada - consumer information. If a refund is refused and you believe your consumer rights apply, contact your credit card issuer to discuss a chargeback and consider filing a complaint with your provincial consumer protection office.
