Cancel Rci: Easy Method
What is Rci
Overview
RCI (Resort Condominiums International) is a timeshare exchange network that allows members to trade their timeshare week or points for stays at other participating resorts worldwide.
Members use points or weeks, pay exchange fees, and may buy optional protections to modify cancellation rights and credit handling.
How the service works
Members book exchanges through RCI's website or app, which records bookings and manages credits and trading power.
RCI operates regionally; New Zealand members are served via the Pacific office and RCI's online member interface.
How to cancel Rci
Online cancellation steps
- Sign in to your RCI account on the web or app.
- Go to "My Holiday Plans" > "Confirmed".
- Select the reservation and choose "Cancel Reservation".
- Follow on-screen prompts to confirm cancellation and note any credit or fee messages.
Alternative and written cancellation
- If you prefer written notice or must contact the Pacific office, notify RCI in writing to the Pacific address (see Address section).
- If you purchased Exchange Protection, note the special cancellation window for that Protection (see refund section).
- Keep copies of all correspondence, booking references, and confirmation numbers.
What happens when you cancel
Immediate effects
If you cancel within 24 hours of booking, RCI allows a full refund of the exchange fee and return of points/trading power to your account.
After 24 hours, entitlement to refunds or returned points depends on timing and whether you bought Exchange Protection.
Credits, access and renewals
- With valid cancellation credits, points or trading power are usually returned to your RCI account rather than paid in cash.
- Credits returned under Exchange Protection must be used within the timeframe specified by RCI (see Exchange Protection terms).
- Membership renewals and access remain subject to standard RCI account rules and expiry of points.
Will I get a refund?
24-hour cancellation window
If you cancel an exchange holiday within 24 hours of booking via "My Holiday Plans", you are eligible for a full refund of the exchange fee and return of points/trading power.
Use the web/app cancellation process to ensure this window applies.
After 24 hours - protections and exceptions
- Without Exchange or Trading Power Protection, refunds and returned points depend on how many days before check‑in you cancel (for example, 90+ days may return 100% of points; 29 days or less may return about 25%).
- With Exchange Protection purchased at booking, you can cancel up to 14 calendar days before check‑in and receive full credit (exchange fee and points/trading power) back to your RCI account, provided the points haven’t expired.
- Exchange Protection fees may be refunded only if you cancel that Protection by close of business on the next working day after purchase; otherwise the Protection fee is non‑refundable and non‑transferable.
- Refunds are generally credits to your RCI account, not cash refunds; check RCI terms for time limits to use returned credits.
Rci plans and pricing

RCI charges exchange fees and offers optional Exchange Protection; membership and specific fees vary by region, membership type and booking.
Exact amounts change over time; check RCI for current pricing when you book.

Your consumer rights in New Zealand
Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA)
Under the CGA, services must be provided with reasonable care and skill, fit for purpose, and completed within a reasonable time.
Sellers cannot contract out of CGA rights; if guarantees fail, you may seek remedies such as a refund, repair, or compensation via consumer channels.
Fair Trading Act and misleading conduct
The Fair Trading Act prohibits misleading or deceptive conduct and requires truthful representations about products and services.
‘No refunds’ statements do not override statutory protections; contact the Commerce Commission or consumer advocacy groups if you suspect breaches.
Customer experiences
Positive feedback
Some members report excellent customer service for specialist bookings such as cruises, including helpful agents and successful cabin upgrades or onboard credits.
Long‑time members sometimes report smooth booking flows and satisfactory accommodation, despite occasional minor issues.
Common complaints
- Complaints include perceived high or non‑refundable exchange fees and difficulties obtaining cash refunds.
- Users report trouble cancelling accounts of deceased relatives, unexpected cancellations when resorts disaffiliate, and poor mobile/app usability.
Documentation checklist
Essential booking records
- RCI booking reference and reservation confirmation.
- Member number and account email or username.
- Dates of stay and resort name.
Proof and correspondence to keep
- Receipts for exchange fees and Exchange Protection purchase.
- Copies of any written cancellation requests or emails to RCI.
- Photocopy of ID if required for account changes or cancellations of deceased members.
Common mistakes
Missing the 24‑hour window
A frequent error is assuming the same consumer cooling‑off rules apply; RCI’s specific 24‑hour booking window is critical for full refunds.
After 24 hours, entitlements reduce unless Exchange Protection was purchased.
Assuming cash refunds or no need for Protection
Members sometimes expect cash refunds; RCI typically returns points/trading power to the account rather than issuing cash refunds.
Failing to buy Exchange Protection when unsure about travel plans can result in significant forfeiture of fees or points.
Comparative recap
How RCI compares
This table summarises typical differences between RCI and common short‑stay booking platforms or hotel bookings.
Key comparison points
| Aspect | RCI (timeshare exchange) | Short‑stay platforms / hotels |
|---|---|---|
| Cancellation flexibility | 24‑hour full refund window; otherwise depends on timing and Protection purchase. | Varies by host/hotel; many offer tiered cancellation policies and some provide cash refunds. |
| Refund type | Typically account credit (points/trading power); cash refunds are uncommon. | Often cash refunds or direct card reversals, depending on host/hotel policy. |
| Fees | Exchange fees and optional Protection; amounts vary by booking. | Service or cleaning fees may apply, but cancellation penalties vary widely and are often clearer at booking. |
| Customer recourse | Subject to RCI terms plus NZ consumer law (CGA, Fair Trading Act). | Also covered by NZ consumer law; platform dispute processes differ by provider. |
