Cancel Asana: Easy Method
What is Asana
Overview
Asana is a cloud-based work and project management platform that helps teams organise tasks, projects and communication in one place.
Main uses
It is commonly used for task tracking, timelines, dashboards and automation to coordinate team work across organisations.
How to cancel Asana
Cancel a web (website) subscription
- Log into your Asana account and go to Settings or the Admin Console for your organisation.
- Find Billing or Subscription settings and select Cancel or Downgrade before your renewal date.
- Note: cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; Asana does not issue a refund for the most recently charged period. See Asana terms: Subscriber Agreement.
Cancel an Apple App Store subscription
- Open Settings on your iOS device → tap your Apple ID → Subscriptions.
- Select the Asana subscription and choose Cancel Subscription to stop auto‑renewal at the end of the billing cycle.
- Asana cannot process App Store refunds; request refunds from Apple if needed. See: Asana refund help.
Cancel a Google Play purchase
- Open the Google Play app → Account → Subscriptions.
- Select the Asana subscription and tap Cancel to stop renewal at the end of the current billing period.
- Refunds for Play Store purchases are handled by Google; contact Google Play support where applicable. See: Asana subscription help.
Enterprise, reseller or postal cancellations
- If you are on an enterprise agreement or purchased through a reseller, follow the contract terms or contact your account manager for termination procedures.
- Postal notices (rare) are usually directed to the APAC office; see the Address section below for the nearest regional office.
What happens when you cancel
Access and billing
Cancellation stops future automatic renewals. For web subscriptions the cancellation becomes effective at the end of the current billing period.
No access is removed until the current paid period expires, unless specified by enterprise terms or account settings.
Data and account retention
Your projects, tasks and account data remain in Asana according to their retention policies and your plan settings.
Export important data before the end of your billing period if you need local copies or backups.
Will I get a refund?
Standard refund policy
- Asana offers a 14-day refund policy only at the start of a subscription (not for renewals).
- Within those 14 days you may receive a full refund; partial refunds are not offered. See: refund help.
Exceptions and enterprise refunds
- If purchased via Apple App Store or Google Play, refunds must be requested from Apple or Google respectively; Asana cannot issue those refunds.
- Under enterprise or subscriber agreements, if termination is for cause Asana may refund a prorated amount of prepaid, unused fees for the remainder of the term. See: Master Subscription Agreement.

Your consumer rights in New Zealand
Relevant law
New Zealand consumer protections, including the Consumer Guarantees Act and fair trading rules, cover unfair or misleading contract terms and recurring charges without clear consent.
How to act
- Cancel subscriptions well before renewal and keep proof of cancellation (emails, screenshots, timestamps).
- If you are charged without clear consent or despite cancelling, you may dispute the charge with your bank or contact a local consumer protection agency.
- Escalate using statutory rights if contractual remedies are not honoured; keep all evidence for complaints.
Customer experiences
Positive feedback
Some New Zealand users praise Asana's clean interface, templates and easy project sharing.
Long‑term users report reliable performance and useful collaboration features. Example: a Capterra NZ reviewer called it “a great project management tool.” See: Capterra NZ.
Negative feedback
Many Trustpilot and forum reports cite unexpected auto‑renewals, perceived misleading pricing (seat minimums) and difficulties obtaining refunds.
Users have described confusing billing, problems downgrading and slow or automated customer responses. See: Trustpilot NZ and Reddit examples.
Documentation checklist
What to collect before you cancel
- Account email and username used to subscribe.
- Order receipts or invoices showing payment date and amount.
- Subscription origin (web, Apple App Store, Google Play) and billing period.
Proof to keep after cancelling
- Cancellation confirmation emails or screenshots with timestamps.
- Bank statements showing charges and any disputed transactions.
- All communication with Asana support, Apple or Google, including case numbers.
Common mistakes
Timing errors
Waiting until the renewal date to cancel can result in being charged for the next period because cancellation typically takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle.
Example: users report being charged after cancelling on the last day; always cancel well before renewal and keep evidence.
Platform confusion
Another common mistake is cancelling in the wrong place - cancelling an Asana web subscription will not stop App Store or Google Play renewals, and vice versa.
If you purchased via Apple or Google, manage the subscription through their systems and request refunds from them if necessary.
Comparative recap
Quick comparison
The table below summarises cancellation and refund handling across purchase methods.
Notes
Always verify the purchase channel in your receipts before following cancellation steps.
| Purchase channel | How to cancel | Refunds handled by | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Web (asana.com) | Account Settings or Admin Console → Billing → Cancel | Asana (14‑day start-of-subscription refunds; prorated refunds for enterprise in some cases) | Cancellation effective at end of current billing period; no refund for most recent charged period |
| Apple App Store | iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Cancel | Apple (request via Apple support) | Stops renewal at end of billing cycle; refunds via Apple policy |
| Google Play Store | Google Play app → Account → Subscriptions → Cancel | Google Play (request via Google Play support) | Stops renewal at end of billing cycle; refunds via Google policy |
| Enterprise / Contract | Follow contract: contact account manager or legal representative | Asana under contract terms (may allow prorated refunds for termination for cause) | Subject to contract notice periods and terms |
