Cancellation Wirex: Easy Method
What is Wirex
Overview
Wirex is a digital finance platform that combines multi-currency wallets, cryptocurrency services and card payments with rewards for transactions.
It offers crypto and fiat wallets, payment cards, subscription tiers (Standard, Premium, Elite) and in-app features such as Cryptoback™ and X-Accounts.
Primary services
Key services include buying/selling crypto, holding multiple fiat and crypto wallets, and spending via a Wirex card linked to your wallets.
Wirex operates under terms that treat confirmed financial transactions as final; account and card termination is handled separately.
How to cancel Wirex
Cancel confirmed transactions
Confirmed buys, sells, deposits or withdrawals cannot be cancelled on any platform; all such transactions are final once confirmed.
This policy applies across the app and web interfaces, so you cannot reverse a confirmed trade or transfer via customer support.
Cancel your card or close your account
- Send written notice to Wirex Customer Support by email or use the account settings on the Wirex Dashboard to request termination.
- Expect possible termination fees and follow any instructions Wirex gives about returning or cancelling a card.
- Refunds of usable balances after termination are processed according to Wirex card/account terms.
For full terms related to card and account termination see the Wirex payment-card terms.

What happens when you cancel
Access and account state
When you request account or card termination your access to card functions and some services may be restricted while Wirex processes the request.
Active subscriptions or recurring payments should be checked and closed where applicable before termination.
Data, wallets and renewals
Wirex will process refunds of any usable balance according to its terms; wallets that are closed may trigger conversion to a default wallet.
Termination does not revive confirmed transactions that are already completed; those remain final per Wirex policy.
Will I get a refund?
General refund rules
For card holds or failed/cancelled card transactions, authorised funds are normally released automatically within 14 days.
If a merchant issues a refund, Wirex will typically process it within about 5 - 14 days after the merchant provides a valid refund voucher.
Exceptions and requirements
- Wirex can only credit refunds after receiving a valid refund voucher from the merchant.
- Wirex may, at its discretion, file disputes on your behalf but is not obliged to do so.
- Refunds are credited to the original currency wallet; if that wallet is closed or full, funds may be converted to your default wallet.
See the official Wirex refunds guide for details.

Your consumer rights in South Africa
Cooling-off and online purchases
The Consumer Protection Act provides a five-day cooling-off period only for goods bought via direct marketing; this does not typically cover financial or digital services like Wirex.
The Electronic Communications and Transactions (ECT) Act provides a seven-day cooling-off right for some online purchases of goods, but financial services are usually excluded.
Returns, refunds and services
Rights to return or refund are strongest for defective physical goods or mis-supplied items; they rarely apply to executed financial transactions or digital services.
For a local summary of returns and refund rules see a South African returns overview.

Customer experiences
Positive feedback
Some customers praise the Wirex app and website for a clear, easy-to-use interface and reward features like Cryptoback™.
Feature-focused reviews often highlight simplicity of account and card use for everyday spending.
Negative feedback
Many complaints cite account freezes or blocks with limited communication and delayed ticket resolution.
Other common complaints mention difficulty cancelling recurring charges, unexpected fees (e.g., storage), and slow customer support responses.
For public customer reviews see independent review pages.
Documentation checklist
Identity and account proof
- Government-issued ID (passport/ID card) and a recent proof of address (utility bill, bank statement).
- Account screenshots showing your Wirex wallet balances and transaction history.
Transaction and refund evidence
- Transaction IDs, dates, amounts and merchant names for disputed or refunded items.
- Merchant refund vouchers or confirmation emails when available.
- Copies of messages with the merchant or Wirex support tickets.
Common mistakes
Expecting to cancel confirmed transactions
Users often assume a confirmed buy, sell, deposit, or withdrawal can be reversed; Wirex treats these as final and non-cancellable.
Always double-check amounts, destination addresses and wallet selection before confirming any transaction.
Assuming instant refunds or automatic disputes
Another common error is expecting immediate refunds from Wirex; refunds require merchant vouchers and can take days to process.
Also, Wirex may choose whether to file disputes on your behalf, so contacting the merchant first is usually necessary.
Comparative recap
Quick comparison
| Topic | Wirex | What South African consumers should expect |
|---|---|---|
| Cancel confirmed transactions | Not permitted; confirmed buys/sells/deposits/withdrawals are final. | Financial transactions are generally irreversible; check details before confirming. |
| Card/account termination | Possible via written notice or Dashboard; may incur fees and triggers balance refund rules. | You can close accounts but check refund processing and fees first. |
| Refund timing | Authorised holds released within ~14 days; merchant refunds 5 - 14 days after voucher received. | Expect multi-day processing; retain merchant receipts and vouchers. |
Guidance summary
For irreversible transactions, prevention (careful review before confirming) is the best protection.
For refunds and account closures, collect documentation and follow Wirex's official procedures to avoid delays.
After cancelling
