Cancellation service #1 in South Africa
Pineapple is a digital insurance provider in South Africa that offers subscription-style short-term insurance, including car insurance and all-risk cover for portable items. Policies are managed through a mobile app or the Pineapple website.
Pineapple uses a user-focused app experience to let customers buy, adjust and manage cover, with pricing that depends on risk profile, vehicle and chosen items. Core policy and refund rules are set out in Pineapple’s terms and conditions.
Cover continues until midnight the day before your next debit order. For example, if your debit order is on the 25th and you cancel on the 15th, cover ends at midnight on the 24th.
Your policy records remain subject to Pineapple’s privacy and retention rules as set out in their terms. Ensure you download any policy documents you want to keep before or shortly after cancellation.
You have a 14‑day cooling-off right: if you cancel within 14 days of receiving the contract and no claim has been made, Pineapple will refund your premiums. Refunds are processed within 31 days of receiving your cancellation notice.
Below are example prices and typical monthly plans sourced from public information and example quotes. Actual premiums are risk-profile dependent and may vary.

Many customers mistakenly cancel through the App Store or Google Play without cancelling inside the Pineapple app or website. App-store subscription screens do not replace policy cancellation in Pineapple’s system.
Failing to check the next debit order date can cause you to lose cover for days you expected to be insured or to be charged for an extra period. Remember cancellation takes effect at midnight before the next debit order.
The table below summarises key points to help you compare Pineapple’s cancellation and refund approach with typical expectations for short-term insurers.
Use this recap to check timing, refund limits and user feedback before cancelling.
| Aspect | What Pineapple provides | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Cancellation method | App or website only (digital cancellation) | Do not rely on app-store cancellation screens |
| Effective date | Midnight before next debit order | Confirm your next debit order date in the app |
| Refunds | 14‑day cooling off; refunds within 31 days; capped to 12 months back-dated and less costs | Refunds reduce for time on cover and incurred costs |
| Customer service | Digital-first support (app, email, WhatsApp references in reviews) | Some users report slow claim processing and low complaint-resolution rates on public platforms |
