Cancellation Enotes: Easy Method
What is Enotes
Enotes (eNotes) is a subscription-based study and homework-help service that provides literary study guides, question-and-answer help, lesson plans and other learning resources through its website and mobile apps. Access is typically managed by a paid account or in-app purchases through app stores.
How to cancel Enotes
- On iOS (App Store): Open Settings > tap your name > Subscriptions > select Enote > Tap Cancel. (On a Mac App Store purchase: open the App Store app, click your name, Account Settings → Manage → Edit next to Enote → Cancel.) You will retain premium access until the end of your current billing period. See Enote's help note: How do I cancel a subscription?
- On Android (Google Play): If you purchased via Google Play, cancel from Google Play's Subscriptions page (for example: play.google.com/subscriptions → Manage → Cancel). Note: Enote's help center indicates most payments are handled through Apple's App Store, so Google Play cancellation may not apply in many cases. See Google Play support: Google Play subscriptions and Enote note: My card was charged unexpectedly.
- On the web (eNotes.com account): Log into your account dashboard, go to Manage Subscription, click "Cancel" and confirm (e.g., select "No, please cancel"). You should receive a confirmation email. See: How to cancel a free-trial subscription.
What happens when you cancel
When you cancel a paid Enote subscription you typically retain access until the end of the current billing period; automatic renewal is disabled so you will not be charged again after that period. If your purchase was made through the App Store or Google Play, the respective store manages billing and the timing of access termination can follow their policies.
Enote should send a confirmation (email or on-screen) after cancellation. Your account data (saved notes, account profile, etc.) is usually retained according to Enote's data and account policies; if you need data removed, contact support for account deletion instructions.
Will I get a refund?
Refunds are not guaranteed. Enote states refund requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and must be submitted within 30 days of the transaction by emailing support@enotes.com. The web Terms of Service note that refunds are generally not offered for forgetting to cancel a free trial, dissatisfaction with content, or misuse of a trial.
Additional points: customer reports indicate some users have received partial refunds (for example, a reported 48-hour grace period after trial conversion with a possible 50% refund if contacted quickly). Purchases made through Apple or Google are subject to those stores' refund processes, so you may need to request a refund from Apple or Google for in-app charges. The Enote App terms also reference a separate 14-day withdrawal right under certain EU rules, which is not applicable to Canadian provincial consumer laws.

Your consumer rights in Canada
Canadian consumers have protections that may help in subscription disputes. Provincial rules (for example, Ontario) provide a cooling-off period for some contracts and require clear disclosure of cancellation, renewal, and refund terms; in Ontario there is a 10-day cooling-off period for certain agreements. Businesses must not use misleading subscription practices, and the Competition Bureau enforces against 'subscription-trap' tactics.
If you believe a subscription practice is misleading or you were charged unfairly, you can raise the issue with the merchant first and, if unresolved, contact your provincial consumer protection office or file a complaint with the Competition Bureau for potential enforcement assistance.
Customer experiences
User reviews are mixed. Many customers praise Enote's helpful customer service and the usefulness of study guides and teacher resources, noting clear explanations and timely support. At the same time, recurring complaints include unexpected charges after a free trial or missed cancellation windows, concerns about declining depth of content, and dissatisfaction with subscription handling. These mixed reports underline the importance of confirming the purchase channel (App Store vs web), keeping cancellation confirmations, and saving receipts.
Documentation checklist
- Account email / username and subscription confirmation screenshot
- Receipt or billing statement showing the charge
- Confirmation email(s) of cancellation (or screenshots of cancellation screen)
- Screenshot of subscription listing in App Store / Google Play (if applicable)
- Copies of any support emails or ticket numbers and dates
- Proof of delivery if you send a registered letter (mail receipt / tracking)
Common mistakes
Common errors include cancelling the wrong place (for example cancelling a web account but failing to cancel the App Store subscription), assuming Google Play applies when the charge was through Apple's App Store, or forgetting to cancel during a free-trial window. Other frequent problems are not saving cancellation confirmations, contacting the incorrect support channel, or waiting too long to request a refund. To avoid these, verify where the charge originated, keep records of actions and confirmations, and act promptly if you want a refund.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| App Store (iOS) | Refunds processed by Apple; case-by-case via Apple support. Enote can confirm subscription status but billing is handled by Apple. | Low - Medium |
| Google Play (Android) | Refunds processed by Google Play if purchase made there; may not apply if Enote says payments use App Store. | Low - Medium |
| Web account (enotes.com) | Refunds considered case-by-case by Enote; request within 30 days via support@enotes.com. | Medium |
| Email to support / Registered mail | Potential (case-by-case); registered mail provides proof if you escalate or need evidence, but outcome is not guaranteed. | Medium - High |
After cancelling
After you cancel, keep the cancellation confirmation email and monitor your bank or card statement to ensure no further charges. If you believe you were wrongly charged, contact Enote at support@enotes.com and provide your documentation. For App Store or Google Play purchases, follow the store refund process: see Apple or Google Play support pages and Enote's help pages for guidance: Enote cancellation help and Enote refund policy. If a charge is unauthorized and the merchant does not resolve it, you can contact your card issuer to dispute the transaction as a final step.
