Cancellation Elevation Place: Easy Method
What is Elevation Place
Elevation Place is Canmore’s municipal recreation centre offering aquatics, a climbing gym, fitness facilities and skating. It is operated by the Town of Canmore and membership terms, holds, cancellations and refunds are governed by town policy rather than commercial app-store or marketplace rules.
How to cancel Elevation Place
- Online (preferred for recurring memberships): submit the Membership Cancellation Request form on the Town of Canmore recreation memberships page at least one day before the end of the month. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current month; recurring memberships must have been active for at least 6 weeks before you can cancel. One-month paid-in-full memberships cannot be cancelled via this method.
- By mail (recommended for proof of receipt): send a signed cancellation request or written notice by registered mail (raccomandata A/R) to the Recreation Memberships office (address below). Keep tracking and the receipt as proof. Mail should be sent early enough to meet the timing rules above.
- If you are requesting a membership hold (pause) instead of cancellation: submit the online hold request at least one day before the first of the month; holds are only available for recurring memberships, may be 1 - 3 months per hold, only two holds per calendar year are allowed, and the membership must have been active for at least 32 days before a hold can be placed.
What happens when you cancel
Once cancellation is accepted, your membership will remain active through the end of the current month and will not renew after that billing period. You will continue to have access to booked services and facilities until the effective end date. The Town retains records required for administration; you can contact Recreation Memberships to confirm closure of your account and to request any necessary documentation.
Will I get a refund?
Paid‑in‑full one‑month memberships are non‑refundable under Town policy. For recurring memberships, cancellation prevents future charges but does not result in a refund for the month in which you cancel; you will not receive a pro‑rated refund for the current billing period. If you believe you qualify for an exception for compassionate or other special circumstances, contact the Recreation Memberships office to request review - such exceptions are handled case‑by‑case by the Town.

Your consumer rights in Canada
Elevation Place memberships are municipal recreation services governed by the Town of Canmore’s terms and policies. There is no federal statutory 14‑day web‑based cancellation right that overrides municipal membership rules in this context, and App Store/Google Play consumer rules do not apply because these are not subscriptions managed through those platforms. If you have a dispute about the Town’s application of its policies, you can request a review from the Recreation Memberships office and escalate through Town customer service processes; for legal remedies you may consider provincial consumer protection guidance or seek independent advice.
Customer experiences
Public reviews are mixed. Many users praise the aquatics and climbing facilities, noting helpful staff and family‑friendly programming. Some reviewers highlight a good steam room and cold shower/plunge options. Criticisms include perceived shortfalls in the fitness area, limited staff assistance at times, and isolated reports of poor customer‑service experiences during lessons or programming. Availability of certain amenities (for example, sauna/cold plunge) has been described as unclear by some users; where exact policies or booking requirements matter, confirm with Recreation Memberships before visiting.
Documentation checklist
- Photo ID and membership/account number or barcode
- Completed Membership Cancellation Request form confirmation (online) or signed written cancellation
- Dates you want membership to end and reason (optional)
- Payment method details for verification (last 4 digits of card or transaction info)
- Proof of registered mail: tracking number and receipt (if mailed)
Common mistakes
Missing the deadline is frequent - cancellations must be submitted at least one day before the end of the month for that month not to renew. Attempting to cancel a paid‑in‑full one‑month pass expecting a refund is another common error: those passes are non‑refundable. Failing to meet the minimum active period (recurring memberships must be active at least six weeks before cancelling; holds require 32 days) can cause requests to be denied. Finally, not obtaining or keeping proof of submission (confirmation email or registered‑mail receipt) can make it harder to verify your cancellation if there is a dispute.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Online form (recurring) | No refund for current month; stops future charges | Easy (must meet timing and minimum active period) |
| Paid‑in‑full one‑month | Non‑refundable | Not applicable (cannot cancel for refund) |
| Registered mail to Recreation Memberships (recommended for proof) | No refund for current month; stops future charges | Moderate (requires mailing, tracking and timely delivery) |
After cancelling
After you submit cancellation, keep the confirmation email or registered‑mail receipt and check your bank or card statement after the effective end date to ensure no further charges occur. If you have an issue, contact the Town of Canmore Recreation Memberships office with your documentation and request a review. If you might return later, ask about reactivation procedures or seasonal passes. For forms and official policy details, use the Town’s recreation membership page: Canmore Recreation Memberships.
