Cancellation Canadahelps: Easy Method

What is Canadahelps

CanadaHelps is an online charitable giving platform that enables donors to give to registered Canadian charities, supports receipting and payment processing, and offers tools for charities such as donation forms, peer-to-peer fundraising and event ticketing. It acts as an intermediary between donors and charities, collecting donations, issuing tax receipts where applicable, and providing donor-management tools to nonprofit organizations.

How to cancel Canadahelps

  • One-time (web) donations: You cannot cancel a completed one-time donation. Donations are treated as gifts once processed.
  • Monthly/recurring donations (web): Sign in to your CanadaHelps donor account, go to the “Monthly Gift” section, and delete the monthly gift to stop future charges. See the CanadaHelps FAQ for details: CanadaHelps donating FAQ.
  • App Store / Google Play: CanadaHelps does not document in-app subscriptions; any subscription-like payments are managed through the respective platform (iOS App Store or Google Play). If you believe a platform charge is related to CanadaHelps, cancel or dispute via your Apple/Google account settings.
  • Formal written notice (recommended for record-keeping): If you want a formal cancellation notice or must provide written proof, send a registered letter (raccomandata A/R) addressed to the Chief Operating Officer at CanadaHelps; see the Address section below for the mailing address.
  • If you need help or have questions about a cancellation or potential refund, contact CanadaHelps support and be prepared to provide your donation transaction details and account information.

What happens when you cancel

When you cancel a recurring monthly gift, CanadaHelps stops future scheduled charges; past transactions remain processed and are treated as completed donations. Your donor account will retain records necessary for tax receipts and accounting; cancelling does not automatically delete historical donation records or receipts. If the cancelled gift was linked to a subscription managed by Apple or Google, stopping it through that platform ends future billing but does not retroactively reverse donations.

Will I get a refund?

CanadaHelps generally does not issue refunds for donations. Refunds are considered only in extenuating circumstances and are reviewed by senior management (President & CEO). Typical exceptions include charity de-registration, proven fraud, or technical/data-entry errors. Refund requests must normally be submitted within 90 days of the original donation; requests after 90 days are only considered in extraordinary cases. Event ticket purchases and donations made via Events are explicitly non-refundable. For the formal policy, see the CanadaHelps Donation Delivery and Refund Policy: Donation Delivery and Refund Policy and the Events FAQ: Events FAQ.

Your consumer rights in Canada

Under CanadaHelps’ published policy you have a 90-day window to request a refund; refunds outside that period are considered only in exceptional circumstances such as fraud or legal obligations. You have the right to cancel recurring gifts through your donor account at any time and to receive tax receipts for eligible donations. If you believe a refund or cancellation has been mishandled, you may request records from CanadaHelps and, if unresolved, escalate concerns to the Canada Revenue Agency's Charities Directorate or your provincial consumer protection office. Keep in mind that practices and remedies can vary by province and by whether the issue involves platform processing versus platform policy (e.g., Apple/Google purchases).

Customer experiences

Many users and charities report that CanadaHelps is easy to use, reliable, and backed by helpful resources and responsive support for common issues, noting streamlined donation processing and useful tools for donor management. Some organizations and users, however, report occasional limitations such as slower or limited customer service response, complexity when generating certain reports, and confusion about CanadaHelps' intermediary role and transaction fees. There are isolated complaints about unresolved fee-refund requests or unmet expectations; these highlight the importance of saving receipts and documenting communications.

Documentation checklist

  • Donation transaction ID or receipt (date, amount, charity name)
  • Your CanadaHelps donor account email and full name
  • Payment method details (last four digits of card or bank reference)
  • Summary of the issue and desired outcome (cancel future gifts, refund request)
  • Any supporting screenshots or confirmation emails
  • If sending written notice, a printed copy of the above and proof of registered mailing

Common mistakes

Donors often assume a completed one-time donation can be cancelled or refunded immediately; by policy one-time gifts are not cancellable. Another frequent error is not cancelling recurring gifts via the donor account (instead contacting the charity or payment processor only), which delays stopping future charges. Donors sometimes miss the 90-day refund window or fail to retain receipts and transaction IDs, making refund evaluation harder. Misunderstanding the platform’s intermediary role and the breakdown of processing fees also causes surprise when fees are retained by the platform or payment processors.

Comparative recap

Method Refund Difficulty
One-time web donation Generally no (treated as gift; refunds only in exceptional cases reviewed by CanadaHelps) Cancellation: Not applicable; Refund request: Difficult (requires exceptional justification)
Monthly/recurring (web) Future charges stop when cancelled; refunds for past charges only in extenuating circumstances and typically within 90 days Cancellation: Easy via donor account; Refund request: Moderate (requires documentation)
App Store / Google Play charges Refunds and cancellations follow platform (Apple/Google) policies; CanadaHelps documentation does not list in-app subscriptions Cancellation: Managed via platform account (relatively straightforward); Refund: Depends on platform rules
Event ticket purchases / donations via Events Non-refundable per Events FAQ Cancellation/refund: Not allowed in normal circumstances (difficult/impossible)

After cancelling

After you cancel a recurring gift, keep a copy of the cancellation confirmation (screenshot or email) and monitor your bank or card statements to ensure future charges stop. If you believe you qualify for a refund or there was an error, submit a request promptly with the documentation listed in the checklist and refer to the CanadaHelps Donation Delivery and Refund Policy: Donation Delivery and Refund Policy. For general donation questions and account help, see the CanadaHelps donating FAQ: donating FAQ, and for event ticket issues consult the Events FAQ: Events FAQ. If you cannot resolve the matter with CanadaHelps, consider contacting the Canada Revenue Agency Charities Directorate or your provincial consumer protection office for further guidance.
