Cancellation Dossier: Easy Method
What is Dossier
Dossier is a fragrance and personal-care brand that sells perfumes, candles and related products directly to consumers through its website and apps, and offers a paid membership called Dossier+ with perks such as store credits, early access and better pricing. The company also offers app-store subscriptions for its mobile app (“Dossier: Secure Family Vault”) with one‑time and yearly Pro options in the Canadian App Store.
How to cancel Dossier
There are several cancellation paths depending on how you subscribed or what you ordered. Follow the steps below that match your situation.
- Cancel Dossier+ (website/account): Log in to your account, go to the "Dossier+" tab → "Manage membership" → "Cancel membership", follow the prompts until you receive confirmation. Note: unused store credits are forfeited on cancellation and only the current month’s fee is refundable. See Dossier’s terms: Dossier terms & conditions.
- Cancel subscription purchased via Apple App Store: Open your Apple account settings → Subscriptions → select the subscription → Cancel Subscription. Refunds or billing adjustments are handled under Apple’s policies: Apple support (Canada).
- Cancel subscription purchased via Google Play: Open the Google Play Store → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → select and cancel. Refunds follow Google Play policies.
- Cancel an order or request a refund for physical products: If the order has not shipped, contact Dossier customer service via their website/store page immediately. If Dossier cancels because an item is unavailable or delivery fails, they state they will issue a full refund promptly: TryDossier terms.
What happens when you cancel
Cancelling prevents future recurring billing for the membership or subscription. According to Dossier’s published policy, unused store credits are forfeited at cancellation and only the current month’s membership fee is refundable; specific post‑cancellation access (for example whether you retain member pricing for the remainder of a paid period) is not detailed in the public policy, so verify the confirmation message you receive when cancelling. For order cancellations initiated by Dossier (out of stock or delivery failure) they state they will refund in full and may relist products.
Account and order information are typically retained in line with the company’s privacy policy; if you need deletion or a data export, contact Dossier support directly and review their privacy or account settings pages.
Will I get a refund?
Refunds depend on the item and how you subscribed. For membership subscriptions via Dossier’s site, only the current month’s fee is refundable and unused credits are forfeited. For physical products, Dossier’s published policy allows returns within 30 days of delivery: customers receive a refund of the purchase price minus a $3.99 processing fee per bottle unless the customer is a Dossier+ member, who receive one free return per order (no processing fee) and one free exchange per order. Shipping costs are not refundable unless Dossier’s policy or a promotion specifies otherwise.
If Dossier cancels an order because items are unavailable, or if delivery fails (recipient absent, carrier returns package), Dossier may cancel and issue a full refund and relist the products. Refunds for returned products are processed within 14 days of Dossier receiving the return or receiving proof of return. Gift cards are non-refundable except where required by law. Refunds for subscriptions purchased through Apple or Google are handled by Apple/Google under their refund rules.
Dossier plans and pricing
| Plan | Price | Period | Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dossier Pro (Lifetime) | C$49.99 | One‑time (lifetime) | Unlocks the full functionality of Dossier: Secure Family Vault app |
| Dossier Pro (Yearly) | C$24.99 | Annual subscription | One‑year access to Pro features in Dossier: Secure Family Vault app |
Your consumer rights in Canada
Canadian consumer protection is primarily regulated at the provincial level and may provide additional statutory cancellation or refund rights for distance sales. Some provinces have specific “cooling‑off” or cancellation windows for certain contracts; practices and periods can differ by province. Dossier’s published online policy does not explicitly reference a 14‑day legal right of withdrawal, so if you believe a statutory right applies in your province you should raise that with Dossier and, if needed, your provincial consumer protection office.
If you suspect unauthorized charges or persistent subscription billing after cancellation, you may contact your payment provider or credit card issuer to dispute the charge (chargeback) and file a complaint with your provincial consumer protection authority or, for broader issues, the federal Competition Bureau.
Customer experiences
Public reviews are mixed. Many customers on platforms such as Trustpilot and the BBB praise Dossier’s customer service for prompt responses, helpful replacements or refunds when items are damaged or missing, and find the membership benefits (store credits, early access, better pricing) valuable for frequent buyers: Trustpilot and BBB.
Conversely, some customers (notably on Reddit threads) report issues with unexpected automatic enrollment in Dossier+ or difficulty cancelling the membership, delayed billing, unauthorized charges, loss of unused credits on cancellation, or unresolved delivery problems. These reports suggest checking confirmation messages, saving screenshots, and verifying subscription status after cancelling: Reddit examples.
Documentation checklist
- Account email and full name used for the order/subscription
- Order number(s) and date(s) of purchase
- Screenshots of your subscription/membership page showing status or cancellation options
- Receipt or card statement showing the charge(s)
- Confirmation email or cancellation confirmation (if received)
- Photos of damaged products and packaging, if applicable
- Return tracking number or proof of postage for returned items
- Any chat/email correspondence with Dossier support (dates and agent names if available)
Common mistakes
One common mistake is assuming cancellation via the website also cancels App Store or Google Play subscriptions - these must be cancelled through Apple or Google if purchased there. Another is waiting until the billing date to cancel; cancelling earlier avoids the next charge but may still forfeit credits or rewards if Dossier’s policy applies. Customers also sometimes fail to keep photographic evidence of damaged items or return tracking, which slows refunds. Assuming store credits will be refunded on membership cancellation is another frequent error - Dossier’s policy states unused credits are forfeited on cancellation.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Cancel via Dossier account (Dossier+) | Only current month’s fee refundable; unused store credits forfeited | Generally easy if account access works; some reports of difficulty or delayed effects |
| Cancel via Apple App Store | Refunds handled by Apple per their policies; cancellation stops future billing | Easy to cancel in Apple account; refund outcome depends on Apple |
| Cancel via Google Play | Refunds handled by Google Play per their policies; cancellation stops future billing | Easy to cancel in Play Store; refund outcome depends on Google |
| Dossier cancels order (out of stock or delivery failure) | Company states they will issue a full refund promptly | Refund issued by Dossier; typically straightforward |
| Return delivered products (30‑day policy) | Refund of purchase price minus $3.99 processing fee per bottle (Dossier+ members have one free return per order) | Moderate - you must meet return window and follow return instructions; keep proof of return |
After cancelling
After you cancel, save the confirmation email or screenshot showing the cancellation date and status. If you need to request a product refund, start the return within the 30‑day window and retain tracking proof. For subscription refunds purchased through Apple or Google, follow their refund/reporting processes; Apple support for Canadian users is here: Apple Subscriptions help. If problems persist (unauthorized charges, subscription still active, or lack of response), contact your payment provider to dispute the charge and consider contacting your provincial consumer protection office. For Dossier’s published policies see their terms and refund pages: Dossier terms & conditions and Dossier refund policy.
