Cancellation Float: Easy Method
What is Float
Float is a cloud-based cashflow forecasting and planning tool that integrates with accounting platforms (notably Xero) to visualise and manage cashflow, plan invoices and bills, and run scenario forecasts. It is offered on paid subscription plans and provides team-based account management, with billing and data linked to the team account and the Account Owner.
How to cancel Float
- Account Owner (only) via the web: sign in, go to Team settings → General tab → click "Delete team". Deleting the team permanently removes data, stops billing immediately and revokes access; this cannot be undone. See Float's cancellation article: Pause or cancel your account.
- If you subscribed through Apple App Store or Google Play, manage and cancel that subscription through the respective store (refunds and reimbursement for app purchases are handled by the store/provider; see Float Terms: Float Terms).
- If you require an official cancellation notice per Float's Terms, send a registered postal notice (raccomandata A/R) to Float's official address and optionally notify support by email; registered mail is the recommended method to ensure legal validity.
What happens when you cancel
When the Account Owner deletes a team, all team data is permanently removed from Float and cannot be recovered. Billing for the subscription stops immediately and users lose access. If the subscription was managed via a mobile app store, cancellation there ends future renewals from that store but does not automatically remove data from Float unless you delete the team in the Float app or web console. Pausing accounts is no longer supported as of August 22, 2025; accounts paused before that date may be reactivated within 12 months by logging in, but pausing again is not available.
Will I get a refund?
Float’s standard policy is that billing for monthly and annual plans is non‑refundable in advance: there are no refunds for partial months, plan changes, or unused time after the initial period. However, Float offers a 30‑day satisfaction guarantee: if you upgrade to a paid plan and are unhappy within the first 30 days, Float will cancel and refund the amount paid to the original payment method. For annual customers, Float’s Terms may allow a prorated refund if cancelled within 30 days of the subscription beginning; after 30 days no prorated refunds are offered. For subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play, refunds and reimbursements are governed by the store - Float’s Terms note that Apple handles App Store refunds and is responsible for reimbursements for app failures.

Your consumer rights in Canada
Canadian consumers generally benefit from provincial consumer protection laws and a typical 14‑day cooling‑off period for many online purchases; Float’s 30‑day satisfaction guarantee is more generous than that minimum. If you request a refund within Float’s published 30‑day window for upgrades, Float must honor that refund policy. Outside of Float’s stated policy, provincial rules and contract law may give additional rights (for example, where a service is misrepresented or contravenes local consumer protection statutes). If Float refuses a legally owed refund, consumers can pursue recourse through their credit card issuer (chargeback) or the relevant provincial consumer protection agency. Also note refunds are processed to the original payment method only, so keep that method active or coordinate with Float in advance.
Customer experiences
Reviews are generally positive for ease of use, clear cashflow visualisations and Xero integration: Float has a strong rating on the Xero App Store in Canada and several users praise the interface and support. Negative feedback focuses on limitations for seasonal businesses (some users report forecasting relies mainly on recent months or manual inputs and lacks same‑day last‑year automation) and on billing/refund friction in a few cases where legacy or employee‑purchased subscriptions were involved. Overall, customers report good functionality but note edge cases where support or product features may not meet specific business models.
Documentation checklist
- Account Owner name and email; team name; subscription invoice or order number; date of upgrade/renewal; screenshot of billing entry; proof of payment method; copy of any previous support correspondence. If sending an official notice, include a signed letter and send by registered mail (raccomandata A/R) to ensure delivery confirmation.
Common mistakes
Users commonly make several mistakes when cancelling: a non‑owner attempting to cancel (only the Account Owner can delete the team); assuming pausing is still available (pausing was discontinued after August 22, 2025); expecting automatic prorated refunds for partial unused time outside the 30‑day satisfaction window; and cancelling a store subscription without deleting the Float team (which stops store billing but leaves Float data intact). Another common error is not verifying that the original payment method will accept a refund - if that card or account is closed, contact Float proactively before requesting the refund.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Account Owner: Delete team via Team settings → General → Delete team | Refund only if within Float’s 30‑day satisfaction guarantee or eligible under Terms; otherwise non‑refundable in advance | Easy for Owner (one‑click), irreversible data loss |
| Cancel via Apple App Store / Google Play | Store handles refunds; Float does not directly issue store refunds (contact store for reimbursement) | Moderate - must use store account; store refund policies vary |
| Send registered mail (raccomandata A/R) to Float per Terms | If within Float’s stated refund windows, Float should process refund to original payment method; otherwise subject to policy/Terms | Higher - formal, but provides legal proof of notice |
After cancelling
After you cancel or delete your Float team, double‑check that billing has stopped and that your bank/card issuer no longer shows active recurring charges. If you believe you are eligible for a refund under Float’s 30‑day guarantee, contact Float Support and provide the documentation checklist items; refunds are returned to the original payment method. For App Store/Google Play purchases, use the store’s refund process.
