Cancellation Sittercity: Easy Method
What is Sittercity
Sittercity is an online marketplace that connects families with childcare providers and caregivers. It offers both a free Basic membership and paid Premium memberships that unlock fuller profile access, messaging and other features to help parents find, evaluate and hire sitters or nannies.
Memberships and certain features (including the Featured Sitter option for caregivers) are billed periodically; subscription management depends on how the membership was purchased (directly on the web, via the iOS App Store, or via Google Play).
How to cancel Sittercity
Cancelation steps vary depending on where you purchased the membership. If you want to stop future billing make sure you follow the correct method for your platform and keep confirmation of the cancellation.
- Web (desktop or mobile): Log into your Sittercity account → Account Settings → Manage subscription → Downgrade to Basic to turn off auto‑renewal. This option must be done on the web; the in‑app option does not turn off web subscriptions.
- iOS (App Store purchases): On your iPhone/iPad open Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → select the Sittercity subscription → Cancel Subscription (if there is no Cancel button the subscription is already cancelled). Manage refunds or billing questions via Apple if purchased through the App Store.
- Android / Google Play purchases: Manage via Google Play subscription settings (open the Google Play app → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → select Sittercity → Cancel). If the subscription was handled by Google Play, Google handles billing and refund requests.
- Registered mail (paper notice): If you prefer a written cancellation or need proof sent to corporate, send a signed written notice by registered mail (return‑receipt requested) specifying your account email, membership type, effective cancellation date and a request to stop future billing to Sittercity’s corporate address (see Address section below). Keep a copy and your postal tracking/receipt.
What happens when you cancel
When you cancel a paid membership the account is typically downgraded to Basic and auto‑renewal is turned off; you usually retain Premium access for the remainder of the paid billing period you already paid for. After the paid period ends, Premium features are removed and you remain on the Basic free tier unless you resubscribe.
Your profile and basic account data generally remain on Sittercity per their account and privacy policies; check Sittercity’s Help Center or Terms of Service for specifics on data retention and account deletion if you want to remove personal information entirely.
Will I get a refund?
Sittercity’s stated policy is that Premium Membership purchases and renewal fees are non‑refundable. They do not provide refunds or prorated credits for partial‑month membership periods. The Help Center makes this clear as the default policy.
Exceptions may be possible only in limited circumstances (for example, demonstrable billing errors or unauthorized charges). If you purchased via the App Store or Google Play, those platforms have their own refund procedures and you must contact Apple or Google to request a refund. If you believe a charge is unauthorized, contact your payment provider or bank to discuss dispute options in addition to contacting Sittercity support.
Sittercity plans and pricing

Your consumer rights in Canada
Sittercity’s public Help Center does not reference a statutory 14‑day cooling‑off or refund right. The company’s stated policy is that subscription fees are non‑refundable. That said, Canadian consumers also have protections under provincial consumer protection laws and payment‑card dispute procedures that may apply in certain circumstances (for example, unauthorized charges or deceptive practices).
If you believe Sittercity failed to honour a contract, charged you improperly, or engaged in misleading practices, you can contact your provincial consumer protection office, your bank or credit card issuer to discuss dispute or chargeback options, and review Apple or Google refund policies if the purchase was made through those platforms. This is general information and not legal advice; consult a local consumer agency or lawyer for legal guidance.
Customer experiences
Reviews are mixed. Many customers praise Sittercity’s customer service staff for being prompt and helpful, and Trustpilot shows generally positive ratings for responsiveness in several reviews. At the same time, a recurring negative theme in third‑party review sites is that Sittercity does not issue refunds and that some users experienced difficulty obtaining refunds or resolving billing disputes.
Other complaints include account or billing issues when subscriptions were processed through third‑party platforms, occasional usability frustrations on the site, and isolated reports of account closures or poor escalation of refund requests. Overall, experiences vary and appear to depend in part on how the subscription was purchased and the specifics of each case.
Documentation checklist
- Account email and username
- Copy of the purchase receipt or billing statement showing the charge
- Screenshots of your subscription settings (web, App Store or Google Play)
- Any confirmation emails or in‑app cancellation confirmations
- Date and time you requested cancellation and the method used
- If sending registered mail: a copy of the letter sent and the postal tracking/return receipt
- All correspondence with Sittercity support (dates, names, case/ticket numbers)
Common mistakes
Common pitfalls include cancelling the app but not turning off a web subscription (or vice versa), assuming a cancellation request is processed without checking for a confirmation, and expecting an automatic refund after cancelling mid‑period. Another frequent error is not documenting the cancellation or keeping receipts and screenshots - without that documentation it’s harder to contest future charges.
Also note that if you purchased through Apple or Google Play you must use their subscription controls; asking Sittercity to cancel an App Store/Google Play subscription without changing it in your device store account may not stop future billing.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Web (Sittercity account settings) | No - subscriptions are stated non‑refundable | Low (direct in account) |
| iOS App (App Store subscriptions) | No (refunds handled by Apple; Sittercity policy is non‑refundable) | Low (manage via iOS Settings) |
| Google Play (Android) | No (refunds handled by Google Play; Sittercity policy is non‑refundable) | Low (manage via Google Play settings) |
| Registered mail to corporate office | No (may provide proof of notice; refunds unlikely per policy) | Medium‑High (postal process and wait for acknowledgement) |
After cancelling
After you cancel, watch for a cancellation confirmation email or an in‑account notification and keep it with your records. Monitor your bank or card statements for any unexpected charges and raise disputes promptly if you see unauthorized billing.
If you need help, consult Sittercity’s Help Center: Sittercity Help Center. For platform purchases consult Apple’s subscription support (Apple manage subscriptions) or Google Play’s subscription help (Google Play subscriptions). If billing appears fraudulent or unauthorized, contact your card issuer or bank immediately to discuss a potential dispute or chargeback.
