Cancellation Thinkific: Easy Method
What is Thinkific
Thinkific is an online platform that lets creators build, host and sell courses and memberships. It provides course creation tools, student management, payment processing and optional branded mobile app support for course delivery.
The platform is used by individuals and businesses to deliver digital learning; Thinkific’s policies, available features and billing are governed by its web dashboard and by app store rules for branded mobile apps where applicable.
How to cancel Thinkific
- Via the web admin dashboard: Sign in to your Admin Dashboard → Account → Account Management → Manage Subscription → Cancel Plan. Confirm cancellation through the on-screen pop-ups. Note that if you subscribed or use a branded mobile app through the App Store/Google Play, purchases, cancellations and refunds for those may be governed by the app store’s own processes and policies - Thinkific’s web cancellation path does not override app store rules. For the web cancellation article see Cancel Your Thinkific Subscription.
What happens when you cancel
When you cancel from the admin dashboard and confirm via the pop-ups, your account is downgraded and access to your paid plan persists until the end of the current billing cycle. Paid features such as custom domains, bundles and other paid plan functionality become unavailable immediately upon cancellation even though access to remaining course content continues until the billing period ends.
Thinkific’s Terms of Service also state that the company can modify or terminate services and that cancellation may result in irreversible deletion of content. If you are relying on course data or customizations, export or back up content before cancelling.
Will I get a refund?
Thinkific’s general Terms of Service state that refunds are not provided except where Thinkific made a billing error or where refunds are expressly stated in special terms. The Plus Terms include narrow exceptions (for example, material breach by Thinkific, certain warranty/infringement issues, or major feature discontinuation) but ordinary plan cancellations are not covered by a general refund policy. For app store purchases, refunds and returns are governed by the App Store/Google Play policies and Thinkific states it will not issue refunds for problems that are subject to app store rules.
Thinkific plans and pricing
| Plan | Price | Period | Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | Approximately CA$244.40 | Annual | Basic tier features as per USD listing |
| Start/Grow | Approximately CA$238.00 | Annual | Grow tier features as per USD listing |
Your consumer rights in Canada
Under Canadian consumer protections (for example provincial consumer protection statutes), consumers generally have rights to clear, accessible cancellation procedures and protections around automatic renewals for recurring digital services. These protections can include cooling-off periods or requirements for clear disclosure of recurring billing; contractual terms cannot always override statutory consumer rights. If you believe your cancellation or refund request engages provincial consumer protection law, you may wish to reference the relevant statute or seek independent legal advice or file a complaint with provincial consumer protection authorities or the Better Business Bureau in your province.
Customer experiences
Public reviews of Thinkific show a mix of positive and negative experiences. Positive reviewers praise the platform’s ease of use for course creation and helpful training resources. Negative reports include issues with trial cancellations converting to paid plans, unexpected charges, difficulty contacting human support, glitches in the interface or media playback, and challenges obtaining refunds. These mixed reports suggest that while many users manage cancellations without issue, others have experienced friction that required escalation.
Documentation checklist
- Account email and username, subscription plan name and billing cycle dates
- Copies/screenshots of billing statements or credit card charges showing dates and amounts
- Screenshots of the cancellation process or any error messages encountered
- Records of communications with Thinkific support (chat transcripts, emails) and timestamps
- Order numbers, invoice IDs or transaction IDs from Thinkific or your payment provider
Common mistakes
Users commonly assume a free trial will not auto-renew unless explicitly cancelled; failing to cancel before the trial end can result in automatic billing. Another frequent mistake is assuming cancellation guarantees a refund - Thinkific’s policy does not provide routine refunds. Some users cancel and expect immediate retention of paid features or custom domain connections; in fact paid features often stop immediately. Finally, relying solely on automated chatbots without saving evidence of attempted cancellation or support contacts can make escalation harder if billing disputes arise.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Web admin dashboard cancellation | Refunds unlikely except for billing errors or express exceptions | Low (standard path), but some users report occasional issues |
| App Store / Google Play purchases | Refunds handled by the app store; Thinkific will not issue refunds for app store governed transactions | Medium - High (must follow app store refund process) |
| Contacting Thinkific support / escalation (email, registered mail) | Possible in exceptional cases (material breach or billing error), not guaranteed | High (may require evidence, persistence and escalation) |
After cancelling
After you cancel, export or back up any course content and student data you need before paid features stop or before the billing period ends. If you believe you were billed in error, gather the documentation checklist items and contact Thinkific Support; see the cancellation article and Terms of Service for process details. For app store purchases, open a refund request with Apple or Google as appropriate. If informal routes fail, consider escalating with written notice (email and/or registered mail) and, if necessary, contacting provincial consumer protection agencies or your payment card issuer to dispute unauthorized charges.
