Cancellation Firstleaf: Easy Method
What is Firstleaf
Firstleaf is a direct-to-consumer wine club that curates and ships wines based on a member's taste profile. Members receive regular shipments and can modify selections or membership settings via their online account or by contacting Member Experience.
How to cancel Firstleaf
- Online: Sign in at firstleaf.com, go to "My Account" → "Membership Plan" → "Cancel Membership" and follow the prompts. Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours before the next order processing to take effect for that period.
- Phone: Call Member Experience at 1-800-461-7203 and request cancellation; confirm the effective date and any applicable charges.
- Certified mail (recommended if you want a paper record): Send a cancellation notice by certified mail (raccomandata A/R) to Firstleaf at 50 Technology Court, Napa, CA 94558, USA and keep the return receipt as proof of delivery.
- Note: Modifications or cancellations made less than 48 hours prior to shipment will only take effect in the next billing period. See Firstleaf Terms.
What happens when you cancel
When your cancellation takes effect, future shipments and automatic renewals under the membership will stop. Your account remains accessible for review; however, credits issued by Firstleaf are club-only, non-transferable and will expire if you cancel your membership. Firstleaf may retain records of orders and communications for operational and legal purposes in accordance with their terms and privacy policy - contact Member Experience if you need account-data actions or clarification.
Will I get a refund?
Refunds depend on timing and reason. If you report dissatisfaction with wine quality, flavour or delivery damage within 30 days of delivery, Firstleaf may issue a credit or refund as permitted under applicable law - credits are typically club-only, non-transferable and expire on cancellation. If you cancel after an order has been processed, or if an order is refused or returned due to non-delivery, Firstleaf processes refunds minus a $25 restocking fee. For returned shipments they typically offer a free re‑ship; if no re‑ship is requested, a refund is processed less the $25 restocking fee. If an order shows as delivered, eligibility for a full refund may be limited. See Firstleaf Terms and Firstleaf Returns.

Your consumer rights in Canada
Canadian consumers are protected by provincial consumer protection laws that cover unfair practices, clear disclosure of subscription terms, and remedies for defective goods or delivery failures. Credits that Firstleaf issues for dissatisfaction are generally non-cash, non-transferable and expire on cancellation, so they may not satisfy a consumer's right to a cash refund in every case - check local rules and card issuer protections. Restocking fees (Firstleaf’s stated $25 fee when cancellations occur after processing, or for certain returns) may be subject to scrutiny under provincial disclosure rules if not clearly communicated at purchase. If you encounter an unapproved charge, difficulty cancelling, or an unresolved refund dispute, you can escalate to your payment provider for a chargeback and file complaints with your provincial consumer protection office or the Better Business Bureau.
Customer experiences
Customer feedback is mixed. Many reviewers praise Firstleaf for personalized wine selections, good curation, enjoyable discovery, and responsive concierge support - examples include high scores on Trustpilot and favourable write-ups on TopConsumerReviews. Conversely, other reviewers report problems such as unexpected charges, difficulty cancelling, and unsatisfactory customer service resolution; these complaints appear on platforms like Sitejabber, PissedConsumer and include a Canadian BBB complaint alleging unclear fees. These divergent experiences suggest that outcomes often depend on timing, documentation, and how clearly membership terms were disclosed and followed.
Documentation checklist
- Order number(s) and membership/account ID
- Delivery date(s) and tracking number(s)
- Photos of damaged goods or delivery condition
- Screenshots of charges on your card or online account
- Copies of cancellation confirmation (online receipts, phone reference number, or certified mail return receipt)
- Copies of all correspondence with Firstleaf (emails, chat transcripts, call notes)
Common mistakes
Common errors include attempting to cancel less than 48 hours before the next order processes and expecting the cancellation to stop that shipment, assuming credits are equivalent to cash refunds, and not retaining order numbers or proof of cancellation. Another frequent issue is relying on oral assurances without obtaining written confirmation - always get a cancellation confirmation number or email. Finally, if a shipment shows as delivered, customers sometimes assume a full refund is automatic; in practice, eligibility can be limited, so document delivery and immediately report problems.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Online (My Account) | Possible if cancelled before processing; after processing refunds may be issued minus $25 restocking fee | Low |
| Phone (Member Experience 1-800-461-7203) | Possible; confirm timing relative to processing - late cancellations may incur $25 fee | Medium |
| Certified mail (raccomandata A/R) | Provides a paper trail; refund policy same as above but useful if disputes arise | Medium - High |
After cancelling
After you cancel, keep all confirmation emails, the certified mail return receipt (if used), and records of any follow-up correspondence. Check your bank or card statements during the next billing cycle to confirm no further charges are applied. If you need to dispute an unapproved charge, contact your card issuer promptly to inquire about a chargeback.
