What is Topstep Trader
Service overview
Topstep Trader is a US-based proprietary trading evaluation and funding service for futures traders. It runs a simulated "Trading Combine" evaluation and, upon passing, may provide a funded account subject to fees and terms.
Who it's for
The service is aimed at active futures traders who want to demonstrate performance within a structured evaluation and access firm capital. It includes platform tools, educational content, and community resources.
How to cancel Topstep Trader
Cancel via legacy web Dashboard
- Sign in at the Topstep web Dashboard (legacy layout).
- Navigate: Dashboard → My Profile → Billing.
- Hover over the active Combine subscription, click the three dots and choose either "Cancel Subscription" (effective end of billing cycle) or "Cancel & Close Immediately" (immediate closure).
- See the help article: How do I cancel my Trading Combine subscription?.
Cancel via new web Dashboard and other notes
- On the new Dashboard Billing page, click the "x" next to the subscription ID to cancel. This action is irreversible for that subscription.
- There is no official guidance for cancelling via App Store or Google Play in the Help Center; cancellation must be done through the Topstep web dashboard.
- Keep a screenshot or confirmation of the cancellation for your records.
What happens when you cancel
Access and account status
If you select "Cancel Subscription" the subscription usually remains active until the end of the current billing cycle.
If you choose "Cancel & Close Immediately" your Combine access can end immediately and any active evaluation may be closed.
Renewal, data and limits
After cancellation you will not be charged at the next renewal if cancellation took effect before renewal time.
- Subscription-specific limits, trade access, and Level 2 data access will stop per the cancellation option chosen.
- Some actions (like resubscribing to the same subscription ID or purchasing resets for that subscription) may be restricted or irreversible.
Will I get a refund?
Standard refund policy highlights
Topstep offers a 14-Day Satisfaction Guarantee for first-time purchases: within 14 calendar days of your first Topstep purchase you may receive a refund for one monthly renewal payment of the Trading Combine if you have not passed the evaluation.
Reference: Topstep refund policies.
Important exceptions and conditions
- If you forgot to cancel and were rebilled, notify Topstep within 72 hours of the unauthorized rebilling to request a refund; otherwise charges are generally non-refundable except where law requires.
- No refunds if you passed the Combine shortly after billing - the evaluation fulfillment counts as use of the payment.
- Reset purchases, activation fees, Level 2 data, Back2Funded purchases and similar items are explicitly non-refundable.
- Topstep Terms of Use state fees may be non-refundable if you cancel early or fail to complete the Combine; under local law some of these clauses may be limited (see New Zealand consumer rights section).

Your consumer rights in New Zealand
Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA)
The CGA applies to services provided to New Zealand consumers and requires services to be supplied with reasonable care and skill, fit for purpose, and completed in a reasonable time.
If Topstep's service fails substantially you may be entitled to cancel and request a refund or remedy even if the provider's terms say "no refunds". See: Consumer Guarantees Act.
Fair Trading Act and remedies
The Fair Trading Act prohibits misleading or unfair contract terms. Businesses cannot lawfully rely on clauses that mislead consumers or attempt to avoid statutory guarantees.
If you believe terms are unfair or conduct is misleading you can complain to the Commerce Commission. See: Your rights as a consumer.
Customer experiences
Positive feedback
- Many users praise responsive and helpful customer support and value the platform tools and educational content.
- Reported strengths include a smooth learning environment, TopstepX and TopstepTV resources, and timely payouts when systems function normally.
Common complaints
- Frequent reports of technical issues such as platform crashes, outages, trade execution problems and chart/slippage concerns.
- Some users report delayed or missing payouts during outages and occasional slow or unsatisfactory Level 2 support responses.
Documentation checklist
What to gather before contacting support
- Account email and subscription ID (from Billing page).
- Billing date, transaction ID and payment method details.
- Screenshots of Billing page showing the active subscription and any error messages.
- Evidence of trading activity or lack thereof (trade logs, time stamps) if disputing a charge.
When to include extra evidence
- Include outage incident reports, screenshots of platform errors, and timestamps when disputing fulfillment or payout issues.
- Keep copies of all support ticket numbers and replies for escalation or consumer complaints.
Common mistakes
Cancelling in the wrong place
Many customers try to cancel via App Store or Google Play, but Topstep requires cancellation on the web Dashboard. Attempting to cancel in the wrong place can lead to continued billing.
Always confirm cancellation on the Topstep Billing page and save the confirmation screenshot.
Assuming automatic refunds
Assuming a refund will be automatic after cancellation is a common error. Refunds are subject to the 14-day guarantee, activity rules, and non-refundable item lists.
If you expect a refund, contact Topstep support promptly and provide the documentation checklist noted above.

| Refund chances | 14-day satisfaction window for first purchase; other refunds limited and exceptions apply | CGA may give stronger refund rights if the service fails substantially |
| Non-refundable items | Activation fees, resets, Level 2 data and similar purchases are stated non-refundable | Some contractual "no refund" clauses may be ineffective under NZ law |
| Support experience | Many positive experiences, but reports of delays and technical issues exist | Document problems carefully to support any CGA or dispute claim |
