Cancellation Geneco: Easy Method
What is Geneco
Overview
Geneco is a Singapore-based electricity retailer offering residential energy plans with an emphasis on competitive pricing and sustainable options.
They operate subscription-style electricity plans for households and provide online account management and customer support.
Core services
Geneco sells fixed-rate and time-of-use electricity plans that include GST and omit transmission loss charges.
The company also offers promotions such as a price-match guarantee for eligible plans and issues billing and account closure services.
How to cancel Geneco
When to notify
To close your account or terminate because you are moving out, you must notify Geneco at least 30 days in advance.
There is no statutory grace period after signing up - once you accept the contract you are bound by its terms.
How to submit a cancellation
- Contact Geneco via their online contact form or email info@geneco.sg with your request and move-out date.
- Include your account number, contract reference and preferred final meter reading date in the message.
- If your contract is still active, expect an Early Termination Fee (varies by dwelling) and a S$10.90 account closure fee collected on behalf of SP Services.
- If you signed up through an app platform, there is no separate app-store cancellation policy published - use Geneco’s contact channels above.
- If you do not terminate at least 30 days before expiry, your plan will auto-renew (typically into a rePower plan).
What happens when you cancel
Billing and final charges
Your final bill will include all energy usage up to the final meter reading, any outstanding charges, the Early Termination Fee if applicable, and the S$10.90 account closure fee.
Any security deposit collected on the first bill is refundable after your final bill is fully paid and account is settled.
Service and renewal effects
Once cancellation is processed, supply under your Geneco contract will end per the agreed move-out/final date and your new retailer (or SP Group reconnection) will take effect as applicable.
If you do not provide 30 days' notice before contract expiry, the contract may auto-renew into the default rePower plan.
Will I get a refund?
Price match guarantee
Geneco’s price-match refund applies when you sign up for the Get It Fixed 24 plan at a non-promotional rate and find a lower qualifying price within 7 working days.
If approved, Geneco refunds the difference up to S$30 per contract period, delivered as shopping vouchers or Geneco rebates after a verification period of about 30 working days.
Cooling-off and other refunds
There is no 14-day statutory cooling-off refund - Geneco states there is no grace period and contracts are binding immediately.
Refunds for price match are processed as vouchers (rounded to the nearest dollar). For price-match claims, email marketing@geneco.sg with proof and contract details.

Cooling-off and contract binding
Geneco states there is no statutory cooling-off period for their residential contracts; once you sign up you are bound by the contract terms.
For this reason, review contract terms carefully before acceptance, including minimum commitment periods and fees.
Termination and deposits
- Early termination is allowed with at least 30 days' notice but will incur a contractual Early Termination Fee (amount depends on dwelling type).
- There is a S$10.90 account closure fee collected on behalf of SP Services when you close your account early.
- Security deposits collected on the first bill are refundable after your final bill is paid and the account is closed.
Customer experiences
Positive feedback
Customers report that Geneco is user-friendly, offers competitive electricity rates and has a straightforward online sign-up process.
Official testimonials highlight savings, smooth switching and reliable billing for many users.
Negative feedback
Some customers have reported slower-than-expected responses from customer support in isolated cases.
An older incident of automated billing overcharging was reported publicly; Geneco apologised and rectified the issue.
Documentation checklist
What to prepare before cancelling
- Geneco account number and contract reference.
- Full name on account and contact phone number or email.
- Planned move-out date and final meter reading date.
Other helpful documents
- Proof of identity or tenancy (if requested by Geneco).
- Forwarding address or bank details for any refundable security deposit.
- Confirmation of GIRO cancellation if you pay by GIRO.
Common mistakes
Missing the 30-day notice
Failing to provide at least 30 days' notice can result in your contract auto-renewing or you being charged further months under the contract.
Always check your contract expiry date and submit cancellation early to avoid unintended renewals.
Assuming a cooling-off period
Many customers assume a 14-day cooling-off period exists; Geneco explicitly states there is no grace period after signing up.
Do not rely on a cooling-off refund - plan and confirm details before accepting the contract.
