Cancellation Wave: Easy Method
What is Wave
Overview
Wave is a cloud-based accounting and small-business finance platform that includes invoicing, bookkeeping, payment processing and paid add-ons such as Pro features and advisory services.
The company offers a free tier plus paid Pro features and advisor services managed through Wave’s online account and, in some cases, via app-store subscriptions.
How Wave is commonly used
Small businesses and sole proprietors use Wave to create invoices, track expenses, and accept online payments.
Paid features (for example, Pro or Receipts plans) add automation such as bank transaction imports, receipt capture and payment reminders.
How to cancel Wave
Cancel a Pro or Receipts plan on the web
- Sign in to your Wave account on the web.
- Go to Business Settings → Manage Subscriptions → Manage subscription → Cancel Subscription.
- Access continues until the end of the current billing period after you cancel.
Cancel if you subscribed on mobile
- If you subscribed through Apple App Store, cancel via your App Store / Apple ID subscriptions settings.
- If you subscribed through Google Play, cancel via Google Play > Subscriptions; the store handles the cancellation and refunds.
Cancel Bookkeeping or Coaching services
- For Bookkeeping services, you must email waveadvisors@waveapps.com to cancel. Service ends at the end of the month; refunds are prorated only for unused full months (initial setup month is non-refundable).
- For Coaching services, email waveadvisors@waveapps.com within 60 days of payment for a full refund minus any services already provided; no refund after 60 days.
What happens when you cancel
Access and billing
When you cancel a paid plan from the Wave web interface, your paid access remains active until the end of the current paid period.
After that date, the paid features are removed and you revert to the free Starter functionality unless you re-subscribe.
Data and account retention
Your account data (invoices, bookkeeping records, receipts) remains in Wave unless you delete the account or data explicitly.
Export any records you need before deleting an account; cancellation of a subscription does not necessarily delete stored data.
Will I get a refund?
General refund policy for subscriptions
Wave’s publicly stated policies do not provide a general 14-day cooling-off refund for SaaS subscriptions in its global terms; refunds for subscriptions are handled case-by-case per Wave’s terms.
If you cancel a Pro or Receipts plan, access remains until period end and refunds are not automatically guaranteed.
Refunds for advisor services and customer payments
- Bookkeeping services: refunds are prorated only for unused full months; initial setup month is non-refundable. Contact waveadvisors@waveapps.com.
- Coaching services: full refund available if you cancel by email within 60 days minus value of any services already provided; no refund after 60 days.
- Customer payment refunds (payments you processed to your customers): refunds can be issued via the Payments UI; processing fees are prorated and funds return to customers in the timelines Wave publishes.
Wave plans and pricing
Plan summary
Wave publishes a free Starter plan and a paid Pro plan. Prices for paid plans are stated in USD.
South African users will typically pay via their card or payment method and see currency conversion handled by their bank or card issuer.
Pricing table
| Plan | Price (USD) | Period | Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | Free (US$0) | Monthly | Unlimited estimates, invoices, bills, bookkeeping records; option for online payments |
| Pro | US$19.00 / US$190.00 | Monthly or Annual | Everything in Starter plus auto-import/category bank transactions, receipt capture, late payment reminders |
Your consumer rights in South Africa
How South African law may apply
South African consumer-protection law, including the Consumer Protection Act, requires fair, reasonable terms and may allow consumers to cancel recurring services or seek redress where services are not rendered.
Wave’s global terms reference generic cooling-off rights for some jurisdictions, but applicability to SaaS in South Africa is unclear and limited.
Practical steps if you have a dispute
- Keep written records of cancellation attempts, receipts, and screenshots of billing.
- If Wave charges after cancellation or provides poor service, you can file a complaint with the National Consumer Commission or seek advice from a consumer-rights organisation in South Africa.
Customer experiences
Positive feedback
Many users praise Wave for being user-friendly, budget-friendly and useful for small-business bookkeeping and invoicing.
Reviewers often highlight the attractive UI and easy invoice generation as key benefits.
Negative feedback
Frequent complaints relate to payroll problems, inability to pay employees after provider changes, and billing issues after attempted cancellations.
Many users report poor or slow customer support, chatbot loops and difficulty getting live assistance, which can complicate cancellations or refunds.
Documentation checklist
What to collect before cancelling
- Account email, business name and subscription details (screenshot of the Manage Subscriptions page).
- Payment receipts and the date of the last charge.
- Confirmation screenshots or emails after you request cancellation.
What to keep after cancelling
- Cancellation confirmation (email or on-screen confirmation) and any ticket/reference number.
- Exported copies of important invoices, bookkeeping records and customer payment histories.
Common mistakes
Not cancelling in the right place
Many users try to cancel via Wave’s app but actually subscribed through Apple or Google. In those cases the store must be used to cancel.
Always check whether your subscription was purchased via Wave’s website or via an app store before cancelling.
Not keeping proof of cancellation
Users often fail to save cancellation confirmation or ticket numbers and then get charged again; this makes disputes harder to resolve.
Always take screenshots and keep emails that show the cancellation date and policy references.
Comparative recap

| Pro | US$19/month or US$190/year | Adds bank transaction auto-imports, receipt capture and automated reminders |
