Overview

Meetup is an online platform that helps people find and join local groups and events around shared interests. It offers free member access alongside paid subscriptions for enhanced member features and organizer plans that add tools for running groups and managing events.

How to cancel Meetup

• Via Web (Desktop): Log in to Meetup → Profile icon → Settings → Meetup+ or Organizer Subscription → Click “Cancel subscription” → confirm cancellation. See the Meetup help article: Canceling a recurring subscription.
• Via Meetup mobile apps (iOS or Android): Open the app → Profile → Settings → Meetup+ or Organizer subscription → Manage your subscription → Cancel subscription → follow the cancellation flow. See: Canceling a recurring subscription.
• Via Apple App Store (iOS): If you purchased through Apple, cancel in Apple settings: Settings app → your name → Subscriptions → select Meetup → Cancel Subscription. See Apple support: Manage subscriptions on iPhone or iPad.
• Via Google Play (Android): If you purchased through Google Play, cancel in the Play Store app: Play Store app → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → choose Meetup → Cancel subscription. Guidance: Cancel through Google Play.
• Note on deactivation: Deactivating your Meetup account will automatically cancel subscriptions billed by Meetup, but it will not cancel subscriptions billed through Apple or Google - those must be canceled through the respective platforms. See: Deactivating an account.

What happens when you cancel

When you cancel a Meetup subscription billed directly by Meetup (web or in-app), the subscription stops auto-renewal. You generally retain access to paid features until the end of your current billing period. If your subscription was billed through Apple or Google, you must cancel through those stores; cancelling on Meetup will not stop those charges. Meetup retains account and group data according to its terms - canceling a subscription does not necessarily delete your Meetup account or group content unless you explicitly deactivate or delete the account.

Will I get a refund?

Meetup’s published refund policy for subscriptions bought directly (not via Apple/Google) allows refunds within defined windows: 20 days for weekly and monthly plans, and 60 days for yearly plans. Refunds are not issued if the request falls outside those windows, if you downgraded your plan, if you already received a refund in the last eight months, or if the purchase was made through the Apple App Store (Apple handles those refunds). For member dues or event fees paid to organizers, refund policies vary by group; Meetup’s Trust & Safety team may intervene and refund certain payments (via Stripe) in cases such as fraud or misuse.
