Cancellation Openphone: Easy Method
What is Openphone
OpenPhone is a cloud-based business phone service that provides phone numbers, calling, texting, team collaboration features, and integrations for small and growing teams. It works across desktop and mobile devices and is commonly used to manage business communications without traditional carrier hardware.
How to cancel Openphone
- Web (direct via OpenPhone/Quo dashboard): Sign in to your account, go to the Plan & billing page, click "Cancel Subscription" at the bottom, type "cancel" when prompted, confirm the cancellation, and you will receive a confirmation email. Service continues until the end of the current billing period.
- Google Play Store (Android subscriptions): Open the Google Play Store app → Menu → My apps & games (or Subscriptions) → Subscriptions → select the Quo/OpenPhone subscription → update payment or cancel via Google Play subscription management.
- App Store (iOS): OpenPhone does not provide iOS/App Store - specific cancellation instructions in its Help Center; manage subscriptions through Apple’s standard App Store subscription settings (Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions) as per Apple’s processes.
- Physical mail (as permitted by Terms of Service): Send a registered/trackable cancellation notice to OpenPhone’s Canadian address and also email support+developers@openphone.com with the notice. For registered-mail delivery, include your account details and a clear cancellation statement.
What happens when you cancel
When you cancel, your paid service remains active until the end of the current billing period; you will not be billed for future periods after cancellation. OpenPhone retains numbers and associated account data for a limited time (numbers are retained for 30 days under the stated policy), after which they may be released. You should copy or export any needed records before the retention period ends. If you plan to port a number away, handle porting before the number retention period expires and follow the receiving carrier’s instructions.
Will I get a refund?
OpenPhone’s stated policy is that payments already made are not refunded; the service continues until the end of the paid billing period. The main exception is the 7-day free trial: if you cancel during the trial, you incur no charges. There is no general statutory automatic 14-day refund right for digital subscriptions in Canada beyond the trial; disputes over billing or exceptional circumstances should be raised with OpenPhone support but are subject to their refund policy.
Openphone plans and pricing

Your consumer rights in Canada
Canadian consumer protection for digital telecom services does not generally provide an automatic 14-day cooling-off period for subscription software services. In Quebec (and typically similar protections elsewhere in Canada), regulators require that cancellation fees linked to device financing be reasonable and not excessive, but this does not create a broad right to refund subscription payments already made. If you believe a billing practice violates provincial consumer protection rules, consult the Office de la protection du consommateur (Quebec) or the consumer protection agency in your province for guidance.
Customer experiences
Users commonly praise OpenPhone for an intuitive interface, useful team collaboration tools, AI transcription and call summaries, responsive support in some cases, and the convenience of multi-device use, which many small businesses say improves communication efficiency. Conversely, reviews also report issues: slow or limited customer support channels (email-only for lower plans), occasional technical bugs (login problems, missing messages, desktop sync issues), call-quality problems, account blocks or difficulties porting numbers related to carrier/A2P compliance, and frustrations over billing issues and the stated no-refund policy when problems occur. These mixed experiences indicate good product features coupled with important caveats around support responsiveness and certain technical or billing risks.
Documentation checklist
- Account email and username; last 4 digits of payment method
- Subscription invoice or billing statement showing the charge(s)
- Confirmation screenshot or email when you submit the cancellation
- Phone numbers you want to retain or port and any porting authorization documents
- If sending physical notice: a copy of the registered-mail receipt and the email sent to support+developers@openphone.com
Common mistakes
Common errors include cancelling in the wrong place (for example, cancelling via the OpenPhone dashboard when the subscription was billed through Google Play or Apple), expecting an automatic refund after cancellation, failing to port a number before the retention period ends, and not keeping proof of cancellation or registered-mail receipts. Also, users sometimes forget to turn off auto-renew in the platform that actually bills them (Google Play or App Store), which results in continued charges despite attempts to cancel within the app or website.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Web dashboard (direct) | No refunds (service runs to period end); trial exception applies | Low - cancel in Plan & billing page |
| Google Play Store | No refunds from OpenPhone; Google Play refund policies apply (trial/no charge if cancelled on time) | Low to medium - manage via Google Play Subscriptions |
| App Store (iOS) | No refunds from OpenPhone; Apple/App Store refund and subscription rules apply | Low to medium - manage via Apple subscription settings |
| Registered mail + email (Terms of Service option) | No refunds (policy applies); used to ensure legal notice if required | Medium - requires sending tracked mail and emailing support |
After cancelling
After you cancel, keep your confirmation email or registered-mail receipt and monitor your account for the end-of-period date. If you need to port a number, start the port-out process promptly and keep documentation of the cancellation and any correspondence with support. For help articles and further instructions, see the OpenPhone Help Center: OpenPhone Help Center, manage Android subscriptions: Google Play subscriptions, and manage Apple subscriptions: Apple subscriptions.
