Cancellation Otter.Ai: Easy Method
What is Otter.Ai
Otter.ai is a cloud-based transcription and note-taking service that creates automated transcriptions, speaker identification, and meeting summaries from audio and live conversations. It is commonly used for meetings, interviews, lectures and integrates with platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet to improve meeting productivity.
How to cancel Otter.Ai
- Web (Otter.ai website): Sign in to Otter.ai, go to Account Settings → Plan tab → Cancel Plan. The subscription remains active until the end of the billing cycle; cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid being charged. For details see Otter’s web help: Cancel your Otter Pro subscription.
- Apple App Store (iOS): You must cancel via your iPhone/iPad Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Otter.ai → Cancel Subscription. You cannot cancel Apple-billed subscriptions through the Otter website or Otter support. See: Move Apple/Google subscriptions to Otter via web.
- Google Play Store (Android): Cancel in Google Play → Subscriptions → find Otter.ai → Cancel subscription. Google-billed subscriptions cannot be cancelled through the Otter website or Otter support. See the same guidance: Move Apple/Google subscriptions to Otter via web.
What happens when you cancel
When you cancel a paid Otter subscription it remains active until the end of the current billing period; you retain access to paid features until that date. After the billing period ends your account will revert to the features of the free Basic tier (or be limited according to Otter’s account policy) and you will no longer be billed. Keep a copy of any important transcripts or exports before the end of the paid period if you rely on paid export limits or features.
Will I get a refund?
Otter’s stated policy is that subscription purchases are non-refundable under its Terms of Service. Otter does not provide routine refunds for subscriptions and does not offer an automatic 14-day cooling-off or right-of-withdrawal for digital subscriptions. If you purchased through Apple or Google Play, refund requests must be handled through the respective platform and are subject to their refund policies; Otter cannot directly issue refunds for App Store or Google Play purchases. For Otter’s statements see: Cancel an Otter subscription.
Otter.Ai plans and pricing

| Pro | $16.99 (USD) per month, or $8.33 (USD) per month billed annually | Monthly or Annual | 1,200 min/month, 90-min per conversation, 10 imports/month, advanced search, custom vocabulary, exports |

Your consumer rights in Canada
Under Canadian consumer-protection laws, businesses are generally not required to provide refunds simply because a customer changes their mind unless the product or service is defective or not as described. Digital subscription services are typically considered final unless the provider’s terms or a specific law state otherwise. There is no universal 14-day right of withdrawal for digital subscriptions in Canada unless explicitly required by law or the vendor’s policy. For general information see your provincial consumer protection resources, e.g. Manitoba consumer rights (representative guidance).
Customer experiences
Customers often praise Otter for its productivity benefits, quick transcription, integrations (Zoom, Google Meet), and useful meeting summaries and search features. At the same time, a recurring set of negative experiences appears in public reviews: difficulties cancelling or confusion about the correct cancellation channel, unexpected charges or billing disputes, limits to transcription accuracy (speaker attribution or summary quality), export or usage limits, and dissatisfaction with customer support response in some cases. These mixed reviews suggest checking cancellation and billing steps carefully and keeping receipts and confirmation emails.
Documentation checklist
- Account email and username used with Otter.ai.
- Subscription receipt or invoice (from Otter, Apple, or Google Play).
- Order ID or transaction date and amount (credit-card or bank statement entry).
- Screenshot of your subscription page or the subscription settings showing the plan.
- Any cancellation confirmation emails or messages you receive (save as proof).
Common mistakes
Many problems arise from cancelling in the wrong place: if you subscribed through Apple or Google Play, cancelling on the Otter website or via Otter support will not stop renewals. Another common error is waiting until too close to the renewal time; Otter advises cancelling at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid being charged. Users sometimes assume a cancellation gives an automatic refund - Otter’s policy does not guarantee refunds, and platform purchases must follow Apple or Google rules. Finally, not saving receipts, confirmation screenshots, or the cancellation reference can make resolving billing disputes harder.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Web (Otter.ai account settings) | No (Otter’s policy: purchases are non‑refundable) | Low - straightforward in Account Settings if you subscribed on the web |
| Apple App Store (iOS) | Subject to Apple’s refund policy (request via Apple) | Medium - must cancel via iOS Settings; cannot cancel via Otter website |
| Google Play Store (Android) | Subject to Google Play’s refund policy (request via Google) | Medium - must cancel via Google Play subscriptions; cannot cancel via Otter website |
After cancelling
After you cancel, keep the cancellation confirmation email or a screenshot of your subscription page showing the cancellation. Export or back up important transcripts or files if you rely on paid-export limits. If you were charged after cancelling or need a refund for an App Store / Google Play purchase, follow the platform’s refund request process (Apple or Google). For additional help or to check Otter’s official guidance, see Otter’s support pages: Cancel your Otter Pro subscription, Move Apple/Google subscriptions, and Otter refund and cancellation policy. If you believe a charge is incorrect after following the correct cancellation steps, gather your documentation and contact Otter support and/or your payment provider.
