Cancellation Shortcut: Simple Process
What is Shortcut
Shortcut is a software product ecosystem that includes a web-based project management platform (Shortcut) and related apps such as an iOS English vocabulary app. The web product is used by teams to manage projects, workspaces, and billing; the iOS app is distributed through the Apple App Store and uses Apple’s subscription management for cancellations.
How to cancel Shortcut
- Web (project management): If you are the Organization Owner, go to the Manage Organization and Workspaces page in the Shortcut web app and disable your Organization. Disabling suspends invoicing and access while retaining data. Re‑enabling may require updating payment information. See Managing Your Subscription.
- Web (account termination): You may cancel your account and use of the Service at any time by sending a written email request to hello@shortcutapp.co, per the Terms of Use. See Terms of Use.
- iOS (English Vocabulary - Shortcut): Open Settings → Your Apple ID → Subscriptions → English Vocabulary - Shortcut → Cancel Subscription. You will retain access until the end of the paid period. See the app Terms of Use at shortcutapp.co.
What happens when you cancel
If you disable an Organization via the web interface, invoicing and access are suspended but Shortcut retains your Organization data. Only an Owner can perform this action; re‑enabling the Organization may require updating payment information. If you cancel a subscription through the App Store, you keep access until the end of the paid period. If you request full account termination via written email, termination terms in the Terms of Use apply and data deletion/retention will follow those terms. Shortcut’s web billing documentation also indicates that canceled subscriptions do not receive pro‑rated refunds.
Will I get a refund?
Shortcut’s Terms of Use state that monthly subscriptions generally do not receive refunds or credits. There is a consumer cancellation right that allows you to cancel any Paid Service and claim a refund within the first 14 working days after initial purchase, but you must remit payment for the value of the service already used. Shortcut’s pricing and billing documentation explicitly notes no pro‑rated refunds for canceled subscriptions and no refunds for charges related to inactive users or unused invitations. For App Store subscriptions, cancellation is handled through Apple’s subscription system (you retain access until the period ends) and refund requests for App Store purchases are generally handled under Apple’s policies.
Shortcut plans and pricing
| Plan | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Public plans and tiers | Varies | See the Shortcut pricing page for current tiers and per‑seat pricing: Shortcut Pricing. |
Your consumer rights in Canada
Under the Terms of Use, you have a 14 working‑day right to cancel a Paid Service and claim a refund, subject to paying for the portion of the service already used. Outside that 14‑day window, refunds are not provided unless Shortcut explicitly states otherwise. Shortcut’s billing documentation confirms no pro‑rated refunds, and no credits for unused seats or inactive users. If you purchased via the Apple App Store, subscription management (including cancellations) is handled through your Apple ID; any refund requests for App Store purchases will be subject to Apple’s processes. For more detail see the Shortcut Terms of Use, the pricing page, and the Pricing and Billing FAQ.
Customer experiences
Public reviews (for example, on Capterra Canada) give Shortcut a generally positive rating, praising its ease of use, balance of features, cost‑effectiveness, and fast, lightweight interface for project management. Users also report negatives: some technical bugs in the web app, mobile apps that could be improved, fewer third‑party integrations versus products like Jira, limitations in bulk actions and custom reporting/search, and a user interface that some find less visually polished.
Documentation checklist
- Confirm you have Owner or billing admin access for your Organization (required to disable Organization in web app).
- Export or back up any project data you want to keep (stories, attachments, reports) before disabling or requesting termination.
- Gather billing records: invoice numbers, subscription receipts, number of active seats, and the date of last payment (no pro‑rated refunds for unused seats).
- If you purchased via the App Store, have your Apple receipt and subscription details ready (manage subscriptions via your Apple ID).
- Prepare a written cancellation request if you intend to terminate the account via email to hello@shortcutapp.co.
Common mistakes
Common errors include attempting to disable an Organization without Owner privileges, expecting pro‑rated refunds for unused seats or partial billing periods, or assuming web account cancellation automatically removes retained data. Another frequent mistake is forgetting to cancel App Store subscriptions via your Apple ID - App Store subscriptions are separately managed and will continue to renew unless canceled through Apple. Also, relying on the billing FAQ and pricing page is important because Shortcut’s policy is generally to not issue refunds outside the initial 14‑day consumer right and to refuse pro‑rated credits.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Disable Organization (web) | No pro‑rated refunds; data retained; invoicing suspended | Easy (Owner access required) |
| Request account cancellation by email (hello@shortcutapp.co) | Refunds only possible within first 14 working days (subject to payment for used service); otherwise no refund | Medium (requires written request and Terms of Use process) |
| Cancel iOS subscription (Apple ID → Subscriptions) | Access until period end; refunds/credits handled under Apple’s policies | Easy (via Apple ID settings) |
After cancelling
After you disable or cancel, verify that billing has stopped and that your data backups are complete. If you disabled an Organization, note that data is retained and you can re‑enable the Organization later (you may need to update payment information). If you requested termination by email, keep a copy of your written request and any reply from hello@shortcutapp.co. For more details and self‑service options, consult the Shortcut help pages: Managing Your Subscription, the Pricing page, and the Terms of Use.
Address
For cancellation requests by written email: hello@shortcutapp.co. No physical postal address for cancellations is specified in the Terms of Use; consider including account details and any relevant invoices when you contact support.
