Cancel Paddle: Easy Method
What is Paddle
Overview
Paddle is an online payments and subscription management platform used by software merchants to sell digital products and handle billing, cancellations and refunds.
How Paddle appears to customers
Customers interact with Paddle when checking out, receiving invoices, or managing subscriptions through merchant storefronts or Paddle-hosted pages.
Platform role
Paddle acts as the merchant of record for many sellers, which means it processes payments and enforces billing and refund policies on behalf of merchants.
How to cancel Paddle
Cancel web purchases and subscriptions via Paddle
- Locate your order or subscription details (invoice or order ID) in your email from Paddle.
- Use Paddle's support channels: visit the Paddle support or "look up my purchase" page to contact support. Paddle consumer terms.
- Request cancellation through the support form or dashboard chat/email; include your order ID and email used at purchase.
Timing for subscription cancellations
- For subscriptions purchased via Paddle’s website, contact Paddle at least 48 hours before the next billing date to prevent renewal.
- Specify that you want cancellation to take effect at the next payment date if you do not want a further charge.
App Store and Google Play subscriptions
- iOS (App Store) subscriptions must be cancelled through your Apple subscription settings; Apple controls the subscription. Apple-managed subscriptions.
- Android (Google Play) subscriptions must be cancelled through Google Play subscription settings; Google handles the cancellation. Google-managed subscriptions.
What happens when you cancel
Access to product or service
When you cancel a subscription through Paddle, access typically continues until the end of the current paid period unless otherwise stated by the merchant.
Billing and renewals
Cancellation prevents future automatic renewals; the cancellation usually takes effect at the next payment date if done within the required notice period.
Data and account status
Merchant policies determine data retention and account deletion. Contact the merchant or check their privacy policy for details on data handling after cancellation.
Will I get a refund?
14-day consumer cancellation right
Consumers generally have a 14-day right to cancel and return the product, including some digital content, starting the day after purchase.
If you cancel within 14 days, Paddle must reimburse all payments without undue delay and no later than 14 days after notification.
Refund method and timing
- Refunds must be made using the same payment method used for the purchase.
- Paddle must issue refunds without charging a fee where the 14-day consumer right applies.
Exceptions and discretionary refunds
Outside the 14-day window refunds are at Paddle's and the merchant's discretion and may be refused, for example in suspected fraud or refund abuse cases.
There are generally no refunds for unused portions of subscription periods if you cancel mid-period unless the merchant states otherwise.
Paddle plans and pricing
Typical pricing structure
Paddle's platform pricing and plan structure varies by merchant and contract; many merchants pay fees or revenue share to Paddle.
What customers pay
Customers are charged per the merchant's listed price at checkout; payment methods may include credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Pricing table
| Plan / Item | Price or Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Platform subscription fees | Varies | Depends on merchant agreement |
| Transaction fees | Varies | Applied per sale per merchant contract |
| Customer product price | Varies | Set by the merchant at checkout |
Your consumer rights in New Zealand
Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA)
Under the CGA, sellers cannot contract out of consumer rights; no-refund or no-return clauses that try to remove statutory rights are void.
Digital content is covered: services must be provided with reasonable care and skill and be fit for purpose.
Remedies under CGA
- If digital content or a service fails you can request repair, replacement or refund depending on the issue.
- Seek remedies from the seller; if Paddle is the merchant of record, they may be responsible for compliance.
Fair Trading Act
The Fair Trading Act prohibits misleading or deceptive conduct in trade; cancellation and refund representations must be accurate and not misleading.
You can contact government agencies if you suspect misleading conduct. NZ consumer help.
Customer experiences
Positive feedback
Many users praise Paddle for a fast, simple support process and an AI-powered chatbot that speeds cancellations and refunds.
Reviews often say cancellations and refunds can be hassle-free when handled through Paddle's support tools.
Negative feedback
Some merchants report abrupt account terminations and 'high risk' classifications that can lead to held funds and limited explanations.
Other customers report unexpected billing or lack of clear notice about recurring charges in a minority of reviews.
Balanced takeaway
Paddle generally handles consumer-facing tasks efficiently, but merchants and customers should keep records and monitor account notices to avoid surprises.
Documentation checklist
What to gather before contacting Paddle
- Order ID or invoice number from the Paddle email receipt.
- Email address used at purchase and the purchaser's name.
- Payment method details (last four digits, PayPal email, etc.).
Additional useful evidence
- Screenshots of subscription pages, billing dates, and charges from your bank or card statement.
- Any merchant communication about terms, trial periods or automatic renewals.
- Dates and timestamps of your cancellation request and any support responses.
Common mistakes
Attempting to cancel via the wrong channel
Many customers try to cancel App Store or Google Play subscriptions through Paddle, which will not work; use Apple or Google subscription settings instead.
Missing required identifiers
Failing to provide order ID or the email used at purchase delays support responses. Always include invoice details when contacting Paddle.
Assuming immediate refunds or prorated returns
Expect access to remain until the period ends and understand refunds are not guaranteed outside statutory rights. Do not rely on immediate or prorated refunds unless the merchant has promised them.
