Cancellation Biorender: Easy Method
What is Biorender
BioRender is a web-based tool for creating scientific figures, diagrams and illustrations, offering libraries of icons, templates and collaboration features tailored to researchers, educators and industry users. It is available under several subscription plans (individual, lab/team, academic, industry) with different publishing rights and seat counts.
How to cancel Biorender
- Cancel a Free Trial (web): Sign in, go to Account → Plan & Billing → Manage Plan → Continue and cancel plan → Confirm cancellation. Cancel within the 14‑day trial to avoid charges; BioRender typically sends a 7‑day reminder before trial end.
- Cancel an active paid subscription (web): Sign in, Account → Plan & Billing → Manage Plan → Continue and cancel plan → Confirm cancellation. Your subscription will remain active until the end of the current billing period; future renewals are stopped.
- Cancel auto‑renewal: Use the same Account → Plan & Billing workflow to stop automatic renewal; access continues until period end but you will not be billed again.
- App Store (iOS) or Google Play subscriptions: BioRender’s web help does not detail these cancellations. If you subscribed through Apple or Google, you must cancel via your Apple ID or Google Play account subscription settings in accordance with those platforms’ rules.
What happens when you cancel
When you cancel a web subscription or trial on BioRender, future billing is stopped but your paid access typically continues until the end of the paid billing period. Your account settings, projects and uploaded content remain under BioRender’s data retention policies; you should export any figures, templates or source files you need before access ends. Cancellation does not automatically remove your account or immediately delete content unless specified by BioRender’s retention or deletion policies.
Will I get a refund?
BioRender’s stated policy is that subscriptions are prepaid and generally non‑refundable, including for unused time or missed cancellations. Refund requests are usually considered only for the most recent charge and only in cases of billing errors or confirmed service issues; forgetting to cancel is typically not grounds for a refund. Submitting a refund request does not cancel the subscription - you must complete the cancellation steps separately. If you subscribed via Apple or Google Play, refund and cancellation rules of those platforms apply and differ from BioRender’s web policy.

Your consumer rights in Canada
Under Canadian consumer protection laws providers of digital services must disclose cancellation and refund terms clearly. BioRender discloses its non‑refund policy and automatic renewals, which helps meet disclosure requirements. However, provincial statutes (for example Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act) also guard against unfair business practices; requirements that place an excessive burden on the consumer to cancel (such as very tight cancellation windows or platform‑dependent obstacles) may raise concerns. If you believe the cancellation or refund process was unfair or misrepresented, keep documentation and contact your provincial consumer protection office for guidance on next steps.
Customer experiences
User feedback is mixed. Some reviewers rate BioRender highly for value to researchers and students, praising the icon libraries, templates and collaboration tools. Other reports note billing issues such as double charges (occasionally resolved after contacting support), frustrations that cancellations must be timed precisely relative to renewal, difficulties when the subscription was managed via an app store, and complaints about pricing and publishing restrictions for certain account types. These experiences underline the importance of documenting cancellations and checking how your subscription was purchased (web vs. App Store / Google Play).
Documentation checklist
- Account email and username; subscription plan name and billing period
- Screenshots of Account → Plan & Billing pages showing plan and cancellation actions
- Confirmation email or on‑screen cancellation confirmation (save or print)
- Transaction receipts or bank/credit card statements showing charges and charge dates
- Exported copies of any figures or files you need before access ends
- Support ticket numbers, chat transcripts or email correspondence with BioRender
Common mistakes
Common errors include assuming a refund will be issued automatically after cancelling, cancelling via BioRender while the subscription was billed through the App Store or Google Play (which requires cancellation there), and failing to cancel early enough during a trial or billing cycle. Users also sometimes neglect to export their work before their paid access ends or fail to save confirmation evidence of cancellation - both can complicate later disputes.
Comparative recap
| Method | Refund | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Free Trial (web) | Usually no refund if charged; cancel within 14 days to avoid charge; refunds for billing errors only | Easy if cancelled via Account → Plan & Billing within trial window |
| Paid subscription (web) | Generally non‑refundable; limited exceptions for billing errors or recent charge disputes | Moderate - straightforward cancellation, refunds uncommon |
| App Store (iOS) / Google Play | Subject to Apple/Google refund rules (separate from BioRender) | Platform‑dependent; follow Apple or Google Play subscription management |
After cancelling
After you cancel, keep your cancellation confirmation and transaction records. Export any figures or source files you need before access ends. If you believe you were incorrectly charged or need a refund, contact BioRender support and provide transaction evidence; note that requesting a refund does not automatically cancel your subscription. For subscriptions managed through Apple or Google, use their support and refund processes.
