Cancellation Ez-Link: Easy Method
What is Ez-Link
Overview
Ez-Link is a contactless stored-value card system widely used in Singapore for public transport fares and small retail payments.
The Ez-Link system also had a companion app for top-ups and transaction history; that app has been phased out and users are directed to SimplyGo for ongoing services.
Primary uses
Ez-Link cards are mainly used to pay for bus and MRT rides, with optional Auto-Top-Up (auto reload) to maintain balance.
Stored value on physical cards is refundable under specified conditions; app functions have been migrated.
How to cancel Ez-Link
Cancel Auto-Top-Up (Auto-Reload)
- Auto-Top-Up cancellation must be done in person at any SimplyGo Ticket Office or Passenger Service Centre.
- Bring your EZ‑Link card plus valid photo ID (NRIC or passport) to request cancellation and any refund of linked balances.
App-related cancellation or migration
- The EZ‑Link mobile app has been discontinued (phase-out effective 8 January 2026); users should perform a one-time sync/migration to SimplyGo.
- There is no subscription to cancel on the App Store or Google Play because EZ‑Link was a usage/top-up app rather than a recurring subscription service. See SimplyGo’s phase-out notice: SimplyGo - EZ‑Link app phase-out.
What happens when you cancel
Access and services
If you cancel Auto-Top-Up or stop using the app, card tap functions continue until stored value is exhausted.
App-based features were migrated to SimplyGo; after migration you access equivalent services in SimplyGo where available.
Account and data
There is no subscription account to cancel on app stores; any migration or data transfer follows SimplyGo procedures.
If you surrender a physical card for refund, transaction history on the card is no longer accessible once the card is deactivated or surrendered.
Will I get a refund?
Refunds of stored value
- Refunds of remaining value on EZ‑Link cards can be obtained at SimplyGo Ticket Offices or Passenger Service Centres.
- Immediate refunds are typically for remaining value under S$80; larger refunds (e.g. ≥ S$80) may be processed to a local bank account and can take up to 10 working days.
Auto-Top-Up and other exceptions
- For Auto‑Top‑Up enabled cards, refund of the auto-top-up balance is processed back to the linked bank or credit card within about 10 working days upon surrender.
- There is no general 14‑day statutory cooling-off right for an app subscription because the EZ‑Link app did not sell a recurring subscription; refund rights concern physical card value only.
For official refund procedures and terms, see SimplyGo’s card and terms pages: EZ‑Link cards & charms (SimplyGo) and Terms & Conditions - EZ‑Link (SimplyGo).
Ez-Link plans and pricing
Pricing summary
Ez‑Link is sold as a one-time purchase card. There are no subscription plans or recurring charges for the card itself.
Two common price points are reported depending on purchase channel or time; see table below.
| Plan | Price | (Period) | Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Adult EZ‑Link Card | S$10.00 | One‑time purchase | Includes S$5 non‑refundable card cost plus S$5 stored value |
| EZ‑Link Card via TransitLink (Wikipedia noted) | S$12.00 | One‑time purchase | Includes S$5 card cost plus S$7 stored value (may reflect other channels or older pricing) |
Your consumer rights in Singapore
Key statutory points
Because EZ‑Link/app is not a subscription service, there is no automatic 14‑day cooling‑off right for cancelling an app subscription.
Consumer protections focus on refund of stored value, fare disputes and proper processing of payments.
Refund windows and fees
- Refunds of card value can be claimed for up to 7 years after card expiry; a monthly service charge (S$1) applies if the claim is made more than 2 years after expiry.
- Virtual wallet refunds (e.g., Mastercard virtual wallet) have specific time limits and processing fees; claims and timings are set out in SimplyGo terms.
- Excess fare refund claims for card users should typically be made within 14 calendar days of the incident.
See SimplyGo’s terms for full conditions: Terms & Conditions - EZ‑Link (SimplyGo).
Customer experiences
Positive feedback
Some users found the legacy EZ‑Link app easy to use for topping up, checking balances and viewing transaction history.
When working correctly, the app and card system were regarded as convenient for daily commuters.
Common complaints
Many complaints involved top‑up failures, declined payments, delayed crediting of payments and difficulties with OTPs or login.
Users also reported problems with duplicate or wrongful charges and delays obtaining refunds; aggregated sentiment for the legacy app was mixed.
For examples and reviews, see user review summaries: App reviews (JustUseApp) and community comments such as on Reddit.
Documentation checklist
What to bring for in-person cancellation or refund
- Valid photo ID (NRIC or passport).
- The EZ‑Link physical card to be surrendered or checked.
- Bank card or details used for Auto‑Top‑Up (if refund to a card/bank is required).
Optional supporting items
- Proof of purchase or receipt for the card (if available).
- Contact details and bank account information for deferred refunds.
Common mistakes
Assuming the app is a subscription
Many users mistakenly expect a subscription‑style cancellation or a 14‑day cooling‑off period for the EZ‑Link app; in reality the app was a utility/top‑up tool and not a recurring paid subscription.
Failing to bring required ID or the physical card
Attempting to cancel Auto‑Top‑Up or claim refunds without the EZ‑Link card or valid ID will delay or prevent the request being processed.
Another common error is contacting the wrong support channel; refunds and Auto‑Top‑Up cancellations must be done through SimplyGo official channels or in person.
Comparative recap
At‑a‑glance comparison
| Feature | Legacy EZ‑Link App | EZ‑Link Card | Migration to SimplyGo |
